Have any of you guys replaced your own steering box? If so I plan on doing mine this weeekend and I was wondering if anyone has any tips on doing it. Any troubled spots? I have a lot of play in my wheel, thats why I am replacing it

Thanks for the help

for removing the box itself it is quite easy with some basic hand tools just takes some patience. you will need a tie rod pry bar, 2-jaw puller for the pitman arm, 5/8" i believe for the three bolts holding the box to the frame, 9/16" and a 11/16" for the hoses/lines, and a 9/16" for the steering shaft into the gearbox.

refer to this thread for sloppy steering...

Make sure you don't have loose tie rod ends and make sure the play isn't in the steering shaft to the gear. Other than that the pitman arm will be the hardest part to remove.

if the play is in the steering shaft itself (from the steering wheel to the gear) you just replace the shaft.
