Possibility of "Frankenstien" 7.3 ?

So, i got to thinking, why can't you swap parts from one engine to the next.

Kinda the way you put injectors from a 530 into a powerstroke, only more so.

Will 6.4 injectors fit in a 7.3? Is there any injectors that will fit, that you could change the 7.3 from hpop and low pres oil, into a high pressure fuel system like cummins or duramax?

Furthermore, looking at the 466, which only has certain years of easy upgrading, whats to keep someone from installing bigger injectors, picking up a cheap cummins ECM with a nasty chip, and swapping that onto the 466?

Could a fuel system and computer be swapped onto a 7.3 from a cummins 14.8 liter v8?

The only problem i see is sensors for the ECM, and minor incompatiblity issues, what do you guys think?

I don't see any reason why it shouldnt work.... (jimmy rigging may be necessary...)

The injectors dont have a way to fit, unless you custom modify the head(a great deal). There are people in the works to try to make the 7.3 a common rail, buts its not going to be cheap.

I believe that 1500+ HP Double Overtime uses commonrail Cummins injectors, so it can be done. Not cheap by any means, but it can be done. The 7.3 *can* make TONS of power, your wallet is your only limitation (like just about anything else!).

D-O DOES NOT RUN COMMONRAIL FUELING. I don't know how many times that has to be said.

Really.... I guess it was once more. I *SWEAR* I read that it was running Cummins CR injectors. If I was feeling more energetic, I'd go look for it. But I've had such a $#!tty week, all I want to do is drown my sorrows. Maybe I'll go hug my truck -- I'm sure that'll make me feel better.

Wow... Now I feel $#!tty for feeling $#!tty about what I was feeling $#!tty about, if that makes sense. Just a crappy work week. Thanks for the perspective -- it could always be worse, I guess.

Sorry for your loss.

Thanks Joe. She always told me that no matter what happens to you there is someone who is much worse off than you. I try and remember that when I get in those "moods"

It was a little over a year ago that I was at my Grandmother's funeral. Actually, right about the time I joined this site oddly enough. One weekend we were at her funeral, the next we were celebrating my Grandfather's 90th birthday (which also happens to be my wedding anniversary). Strange month.

Jeez -- I think I'll have another beer. Actually, I'm out. Glass of wine it is...

My condolences to you Jim. I know how you must feel. I lost my mother to heart failure five days before Christmas last year.

IIRC, D-O runs a special timing cover with twin Bosch indirect injection pumps, each fueling 4 cylinders.

My grandma just broke her femur chasing my kid the other day- bust she's ok this time.

Damn, i hate it when nice people die, it seems like the nicest people always die painful nasty death, and complete bast**** always live forever, making life miserable for honest good people.

Thanks to all of you for your thoughts. When I was a child my mom had to work so I spent the first 5 years of my life on my grandparents farm. I have such fond vivid memories of that time. It seems that it was only yesterday. She was such a good woman, and it really hurt to see her suffer in the hospital. Luckily, i guess for her, the end came rather quickly. i know that I have said it many times before, on this site especially this forum, is the greatest group of people in the world. Not only do we help each other out with our trucks, but we are there for each other in times of need for a mutitude of other things. Once again thanks to all of you from the bottom of my heart!!!
