351 Turbo
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Jan-02 AT 01:33 AM (EST)]Find a couple of matching turbo's off of junkyard Chrysler 2.2/2.5's or Thunderbird Turbocoupes, cheap and common. The Chrysler's are more reliable, but if you're just looking for cheap either will work. Just gotta find a matching pair, and run one off each manifold or shorty header. Then it's just a matter of plumbing the intake, oil, and exhaust. The only restriction to mounting location is that the oil has to gravity return from the turbo into the oil pan. This is my intention when I get around to rebuilding the carb'ed 351W in my '86 F250. There is a good book out there by Hugh MacInness called Turbocharging, from HPBooks. It's kinda old (1983) so it won't tell much about making it work with your fuel injection, but that info should be the same as any forced induction on EFI.

To Turbo a vehicle you are talking big $$$. You will need to rebuild the engine for lower comp pistons, heads, beefier rods. I spoke with some guys up at a shop in Pheonix about a year ago and they said they would install a supercharger on my truck for about $2500-3000 and even at that I would reduce the life of the engine by about 50%. Sport truck is running a story on a supercharger install in a next edition, just read the install portion on a ***vy and they were impressed at the gains on an engine with 200K miles on it, said it was very worthwhile project.
