Exclamation 2004-2007 chrome wheel covers

While at my local Ford dealer today I was looking at an STX.It had, what I thought, chrome steel wheels, the same kind I want for my truck. To my amazement it was chrome wheel covers on steel wheels! I am thinking of getting some for my truck from my dealer($23.90 each).Does anyone here have them on their truck? Can you post a pic of them?

I had the chrome clad 18" lariat wheels for a short time before I went with the 20" Nav wheels...you can see some pics of them in my gallery, they were ok.

Yes, they clean up nice and you really have to look close to tell they're covers. The average person won't even notice.

I don't know about that..(The average person part...) My wife's Edge had those, and I noticed them before I noticed it had a satellite antenna. Maybe I'm not "average", but a lot of people notice those things. While they looked ok, they still screamed "cheap" at me. Ford might as well package them as hubcaps, since that's all they are. My wife's Edge now sports some 20" chrome wheels from a different shop, and they aren't hubcaps.

I'm sure there are other ways to cut costs than putting hubcaps on vehicles again. I don't see Dodge or Chevy doing it. Toyota, or Nissan either.

I have the chrome clad steelies on my 04. I won't recommend them. They look OK as long as you don't press on the thin chrome layer, as it can and does dent. Also the are much harder for the dealer to balance out then the aluminum rims. In addition, if you are determined to get them, don't pay the dealer price, check out the new take off site. They have them there very cheap.

I guess some look cheaper than others, but I'd bet 9 out of 10 people wouldn't even look twice at my wheels when I had them and think they were covers. I don't disagree that Ford shouldn't have made them but I know for a fact Chevy also used to do it, my Astro van had chrome clad steel wheels. Cheap? Yes...

I guess the biggest problem I have with them is the simple fact that I didn't buy a Yugo, I bought an F150. My wife's Edge was 36k..While I didn't pay 36k for it, why? No comment on the Chevy Astro, but you don't see them on the Silverado, Trailblazer, or Corvette....

I agree, it's sad that the wheels I had were 18 Lariat Aluminum wheels, so it was an option not just a standard.

Funny you mention a Corvette, I own a 00 Camaro SS with stock chrome wheels and mine are chromed all the way through, I know b/c I keep even the inside clean when I wash it. Well a guy here at work just picked up a brand new 08 Vette with stock chrome wheels and the very first thing I noticed is that the inside of his are dull aluminum...no chrome..Hmmm

Yep, they quit chroming the entire wheel a long time ago. Most mfgr's quit long before 00, but great for you at least. I guess they'd pit on you if you didn't keep them clean. I have the 18" Lariat rims on my 08, but they have a little design to them. I wouldn't have bought the truck if they had the hubcaps. I would have made them change the rims, or gone elsewhere. I bought my wife's Edge with those, and ordered some new wheels that afternoon. The hubcaps look especially chitty on the Edge.
