Talking

I found them at Pepboys. They are 194 blue led bulbs. You can get them in other colors as well. These are them.

if you put the blue bulbs in your gear indicator on the column (first pic), will it glow blue too? It's got a funky colored plastic piece in there that may change the blue color that shows once it's refracted through the plastic??

they have those at auto zone too. instead of getting the LED's i got the blue incandescent 194 bulbs. I'm going to try them without those stupid blue caps. that should brighten up the gages a lot. I'm also going to paint the backside of the cluster silver, I'm hoping to make the cluster brighter and still maintain the factory color I'm so used to.

Before you paint your backing plate, you might want to look for a test-bed version. I thought that doing the backing plate in silver would help brighten it up also, but was very disappointed - white is far more reflective than "silver" (not chrome, I said silver). Ended up having to replace my already new backing plate. Just thought I'd throw that out there for you. I did remove the blue caps, and went with colored bulbs, and that is the biggest improvement - also modified the bulb holder for the lights/wiper to allow more light thru.

good advise. i was also thinking of surrounding the bulbs with some reflective metal foil. that might make a bigger improvement. how did you modify the bulb holder for the lights/wiper lenses? that is way too dim.

These look great!
1. What did you do about the translucent plastic inserts for the signals? Did you fins some clear/white material, or it looks like you just ditched them altogether?
2. Did I read somewhere that you lose the dash lamp dimmer feature if you use led's?

You fellas are aware that the company Hipoparts is coming out with a special LED dash for these trucks right ?

I had been working with the people from there in the background trying to get this up and available, They will also even be FTE sponsors once they have everything in place.

Ditto.

Mike, what happens if you do turn the instrument panel dimmer with the LEDs? Do the lights stay on? Or turn off? Or........
