351M for a 351 Windsor

I am swapping motor and tranny from a 1978 F-250, Question is will the frame mounts work from the 351M for the 351 Windsor? If not anyone know where I can pick some up for the Windsor?
Thanks Tim

Nothing from the 351M will fit with the 351W. It would be an easier swap to go with a 460. You will need new towers, mounts and tranny/bell housing. If you are dead set on the 351W, you will need to find a donor truck that has a 302 or 300 in it, those towers will work.

Engine Swap

The 351 Windsor was given to me, so thats why i wanted to put it in.
Also I have a another 78 Ford that had a 300 six in it, so you ae saying those towers will work. I have the motor and tranny from the 351 Windsor, mainly just was curious about the Frame mounts. Thanks Tim

I put a 351 Windsor in my 78 Bronco so I beg to differ with you.
yes the frame mounts will work
you are talking about the mount towers correct
just get the motor mounts for a truck or van with a Windsor
you already know that you have to change the trans with the Windsor right
oh yea, 351M is not a Big Block

351M to 351W

Yes I know the trannies are different, I am referring to the mount that sits on the frame held on with 4 bolts, the one the rubber motor mount goes on!

Did you have to redrill the towers? It looks like the mounts are sitting back some on the towers. That is the first time I heard of a 351W sitting on 351M towers.

Nope! I noticed that too, I thought maybe I had the mounts reversed? but I swapped them around and it sat in the same spot
it sits there fine as wine, and no its not up against the firewall
trust me when I was asking on all the forums if this would work everyone told me NO! but from all my measurements it would so I gave it a shot? I already had everything to do it so it didn't cost me anything extra to give it a try, I had to swap the output shaft in the Windsor 2whl drive tranny to the bronco short shaft, but that gave me a reason to try my hand at rebuilding a transmission, all worked out well, I have just put the project on hold since I picked up a 76 F250 4x4 Ranger XLT and I'm getting it ready for the road, I'll pick back up on it soon and finish the darn thing
77460ford has givin me a new found inspiration to get it done! but first I need to finish my Battle Tank

Well now, that is interesting. I wonder if I could put a 460 on my 300 towers. I was planning on buying the swap kit from JBG.

if you can set one on the 351m towers and I set a 351w on the 351m towers
if you have it all there give it a shot and let us know
thats what I did

Finally got around to swapping my 351M for a 351W, fit perfect almost everything lined up, used the 351m frame mounts, driveshaft, radiator.
the only 2 things that did not work were the power steering pump, and the top radiator hose. the P/S pump bolted on to the water pump fine but where it mounts to the head it is not even close on the 351W.
Oh well I will fab a bracket and be ready to rock and roll!
Thanks for all you help!
Tim
