Rear Brake Pad Orientation

I did my rear brakes the other night. I replaced both rotors and pads in the rear of my 2000 Exp EB. Everything went well and I put everything back the way it was. However, to me, the untrained person, the rear pads look like they should go the opposite way than they are now. The pads have 2 notches on one end and one notch on the other. They are in with the 2 notch end facing forward. I spoke with the previous owner and he said they were the original pad and he only had the fronts done so it has always been this way. I guess it is right but it seems like the pad will want to tip up when braking with the single notch in the back. In other words to get the caliper off, I tilted it up from the rear. Does this sound right?

Thanks

I found it. The shop manual says the "locating notch should be at the upper..." or something like that. I see it now.
