Post F-150 5.0 to 5.0HO

I have a plan for converting my stock 1990 F-150 302 into a high output version. I have a 1998 Explorer donor with the GT-40P heads. I also have a 1988 speed/density mustang donor. My truck has speed/density and bank firing. I want to upgrade with explorer mass air and computer but lots of emmitions. Can I replace my stock EEC-IV with the mustangs computer and injector harness (because the upgrade in sequential multiport injection) and use the GT-40P heads, roller cam, roller lifters, distributor, and intake? I know the Explorer and Mustang have the same firing order but will it work? I plan on puting a Superchip in the Mustang's EEC-IV to upgrade air/fuel mixtures and timing curve. So basically will a 1998 Explorer 5.0 convert to a 1988 Mustang speed/density computer and injector wiring harness? Here is my parts list for the change:

Stock Truck:
block,pistons,conecting rods,crank
Explorer:
push rods,cam,lifters,heads,intake
Mustang:
EEC-IV(computer),injector harness,injectors and rails

This is my first conversion and need some help. Thanks.

I think your on the righ track. You definately don't want to use the explorer electricals, it would turn out bad. Theoredically, what you are saying should work out just fine, what you will need to watch out for is making sure everything fits appropriately. The injectors for the explorer and mustang should be the same but you should check just in case. You may be able to interchange both injector harnesses from the explorer and mustang if need be. Some people on this board have tried a swap with a mustang engine have ran into problems but I don't know specifics. If you are using the mustang computer, you shouldn't need a knock sensor either. I am sure there will be plenty of snags to hash out along the way but if you have some ingenuity you should be able to accomplish it. Look back through some of the previous threads and there will be some help on using mustang specific parts. Also, make sure you have a well understanding of any wiring schematics you will be using.

alright if your using the explorer motor i think you can get by with using the mustang harness and computer without mass air due to the size of the explorer cam which is very small dont think you would have any problems and it should run great i dont think i would even mess with any of the explorer wiring because so far all ive heard of is everyone having problems with this conversion but this is how i did it and it worked good for me

i have an 89 f150 4x4 with a 5 speed and i installed a motor that i oringinaly built for my mustang it has gt40p heads gt40 intake 1.7 roller rockers motorsport e303cam 10.5to1 forged pistons bored 30 over 24lb injectors 70mm throddle body 75mm mass air and what i did is i used the mass air harness for the mustang ditched the truck computer put the mustang one in its place just had to make a couple of extension harnesses for tps egr and idle speed motor then just got wiring diagrams and hooked up all the gages everything works and it runs great the only problem i have is the truck fuel system wont keep up i dont know if you will have this problem or not but what im doing is installing a 190lph aftermarket mustang pump which i had in my mustang and getting rid of the inline pump on the frame havnt done it just yet but i took the bed off yesterday and im changing the pump while its off everything is coming together nicely and its a great feeling to pull out of my driveway and and get about 100feet of posi when i hit 2nd gear especially when i have 33/12.50 swampers on back!!

if you have any questions my email address is woprs50(No Email Addresses In Posts!) im sure i can be a great help since i just got done with my own and let me tell ya its alot better than a truck motor
