There are no major differences between an F-250 and an F-350 SRW. Aside from slightly different axle shafts (higher spline count), taller blocks between the rear axle and rear springs and the badging, they are the same truck.

Just curious,

Why do you want a 5.4L in a 350? If you need a 350 I am guessing that you are wanting to do some heavy towing, so why not just get the V10? Virtually no difference in gas milage and more power. Just woundering? I am not ripping on the 5.4 at all because I have it and like it but wish I had gotten the V10.

You're assuming an F-350 SRW can tow more than an F-250, which is not true. The F-350 SRW and the F-250 use the same max weight towing charts, Ford doesn't differentiate between the two.

Here is a link to teh 2005 towing guide. As you can see they have columns for F-250/F-350 SRW and F-350 DRW.

What you do get with an F-350 SRW is the ability to haul about 1000 pounds more in your bed, compared to an F-250 equipped the same way.

I know that, but most people think you can tow a lot more with a 350 than a 250, so that is what I was thinking he was wanting. I am just trying to figure out why he has to have a 350. If the O.P. is wanting to haul or pull a lot he maybe needs to reallize it doesn't matter if it is a 350 or 250, and that a v10 will suit him better. And be much easier to find a 250 with either engine than a 350 with either engine.

This is technicly just a "rating" tho isnt it...... i cant imagine all some one had to do was put bigger rear blocks on to achieve this ... (same springs)...haha

ive seen older F350's around with the 5.4L ...

I'd say dont limit ur self to "F350" check out F250's as well for the configuration you want... just my $0.02

Ive got an '01 f350 5.4l cc sb and just love it. i do tow quite a bit and there is plenty of room for the little one and gear. im not gonna win any races towing, but the truck has always been able to maintain on the hills. if i hadnt found such a great deal and jumped on it, i would have looked at both the 250 and 350.

my only concern... i dont know what the year range is for the plug issue, but i know im at risk. (sounds like an std ) that may be one of the hundred things to consider, 'specially when looking at used. make sure you have the history and a good 3rd party look over before buying something you expect to be trouble free

I've got a 2006 F350 CC with the 5.4l gas. I had been looking for the V10, but could only find the V8. Most of the trucks were diesel, which I did not want. Dealer said that they had a tough time selling the 5.4l V8 because most people want the F350CC for towing, and want the V10 in it.

I rarely tow, but do plow. Have never had a problem with a lack of power plowing with the 5.4; don't even have to use 4lo (has the 3.73 axle). The plow weighs about 1,000 lb, and I carry the same weight in the bed for ballast (sand bags).

I towed a small car (3,000 lbs) on a 12,000 lb dual axle trailer once; the truck really struggled from a dead stop, so the V10 is necessary for easy towing.

I wanted the F350 vs the F250 because I figured that, if I was spending the money, I'd get the little extra suspension capability.

I am in the military and most of our F-350s all have the 5.4L in it, and there is a lot of them around here.

If you can afford a '05' or newer with 4.10 or 4.30 gears you'll be plenty happy. These trucks have a little more HP and built a little more stout. After having a 88,95,99 F250's all with over 220,000 miles on them, and now this '05' with 161,000 miles could not be happier.
