Gaining anything w/ new fuel pump?

We ordered a new fuel pump for one of the trucks here at work. Once it was on we realized we had one on the shelf. Before I try to send it back to Ford, would I gain anything by putting it on my personal truck?

Do these wear out gradually over time? My truck has 118K on it.

Just curious. Thanks.

All mechanical parts wear out in time..eventually. The primary symptoms of a fuel pump on the rocks is that it will start leaking out of the weep hole on the bottom on the pump. I believe they usually maintain the fuel pressure fairly well until they go out completly. If it's not leaking I wouldn't replace it yet.

Yep a quick check of fuel pressure might tell the story but generally they leak before they fail

Either mine is leaking or the banjo fitting is leaking in the rear. It has fuel lying in the engine and leaking down the back of the engine. How hard is the pump to change and is there any tricks to make the job easier? Thanks Rick
