help the gas wont go in

Hello First post I have a 53 f100
I've just installed a new gas tank.the poly style from mid-fifty
So here's my problem, the gas stations in Ca. deliver gas at such a rapid rate,I can get about 2 seconds worth in.At this point I bring a 5 gal container to fill and transfer.Everything seems to be installed correctly,I even have the rollover vent installed
So any ideas?

hades man first time i've heard this one . with my 53 it's the exact opposite i cant keep gas in it !!!!!!!!!!! mines been converted to an electric pump using the drain in the tank as the pickup point and the original fuel line with a rubber hose on it run to the back a bit to keep fumes outta the cab , as a vent and i have never had an issue like that . we had an isuzu straight truck at work once that for some odd reason would do what you are describing and there was no logical reason for it so when we filled her we just ran the pump slower . even the dealership mech's had no clue .

Make sure your pickup tube is screwed into the corret fitting, blow into the hose you should hear the gas bubbling if not you are in the wrong fitting if you do it could be you fuel pump. also disconnect your fuel pump and see if the fuel is pumping to it. I hope this helps...on reading your post again I think I mis unstood what you are actually inquiring about, are you saying gas will not go into the tank from the filling station pump because it comes out to fast?

I know this sounds very dumb to say it, ,but I would try to find another fuel stop where the pumps don't run as fast. I have had similar problems with an old chevy silverado back in '79. I never did figure out what was causing it.

Does the new tahk have a filler-tube vent? And did you do any modification fill-neck..did you add a 90' vent for the tank vent to the filler neck?

I had the same problem with my 52 F1, Mustang tank install, I added a vent line to the the filler neck in addition to the vent in the tank. Worked for me.

yeh, this is the tank back pressure turning off the pump. Usually a filler vent helps. In CA I think this must be captured by the fume collar on the pump handle.

My new poly tank had a vent line. No prob filling. There was a roll-over safety check on the end that had to be mounted higher than the tank. Check that to be sure it is open. Good luck, Jag

help the gas wont go in

wow thanxs for the ideas..now here is what I noticed the rollover vent only allows air to feed into the tank!( as you drive to prevent vapor lock I guess) So I do not have a tank vent that would vent the air out as it is displaced by the gas, seeing that I dont plan on rolling my truck could I just pull the check vale off?
