Larger Tires
I recently purchased a 97 4x4 extended cab and at the time of purchase they agreed to put new tires on it. When I went to pick it up they tried to pass 225/70/16 and they look like donuts. Most sites recommended 235's but I got them to put 255's on it which as it turned out was listed on the door sticker. I was told by a local tire dealer that 285/70/16's would fit and after seeing 255's I believe it 'cause there is plenty of room. The 4x4 owner's manual lists 235 or 265's...Good luck and If you go with 285's I would like to know how you like them at redstangride(No Email Addresses In Posts!)

Go to your favorite tire store & ask to see their BF Goodrich "Tire Fitment Guide". The guide shows the largest tire/wheel combo that can be installed without suspension or body mods.
Remember, you'll have to recalibrate the speedo if the rolling diameter of the new tire is signifigantly different than the original tire's rolling diameter.

If you buy from a Goodyear dealer they'll probably want a mint. I priced 2, 225/55/17 Goodyear LS's for my wife's 300M with an alignment for almost 500 Dollars. I got them and the alignment for $320 from a local dealer (sold many different brands). National Tire on I95 exit 74 in Connecticut. I don't know if that chain is where you are or not. Good luck and again let me know what you end up with.
