96 PSD Won't Start

I've been troubleshooting some tranny problems and decided to unhook the batteries to reset the ECM. Reconnected the batts, now the thing won't even engage stater. It had done the nostart thing before, but would always restart eventually after siting for awhile.

It does have a new CPS. and fuses all check good.

any thoughts?

So does the starter spin? or the engine turns over just won't start? Double check your connections at the battery since that all you working one after it wouldn't start. Might have a loose clamp or poor connection

Yep I would bet your battery connections are no good. Clean them up and reinstall

Well I checked, cleaned and retightened all battery connections but still nothing. I can hear the GPR clicking when energized but no starter.

could I have inadvertently unplugged something to cause this condition??

Sounds like a neutral/ park safety switch I am guessing it is an auto, try moving the shifter lever around try and crank in neutral and that kind of stuff.

Problem as described, possible BIG black wire on top starter solenoid, the one that unplugs.

Yes it is an auto, is the neutral/park safety swithch the same as the MLPS on the driver's side of the tranny? I kind of suspect that thing anyway, while trouble shooting tranny problems I had taken the electrical connector apart and it seemed a little dirty inside. I'm considering replacing that part anyway based on what I have read in previous posts. is there a way I can tell if I have the original MLPS? there is about 265K miles on the truck

It won't start in park or neutral, moving shifter lever around doesn't help.

well I took the MLPS connector apart and inspected both halves, quie a bit of dirt in each. blew them out with compressed air, reconnected and it started right up.

I'm still considering replacing the MLPS and connector, it sounds like there is a an improved design the stays cleaner in the connector?
