From what ppl have told me, you can get a set of cj rods, put arp bolts on them, get the engine balanced, and run them to 6200-6500 safely. I wouldnt run them above 6000 if it was me. If I wanted to run them in the 6500-7000 range, I would get some hbeam rods. As for the low end torqe, not sure. Most likely it will still be making monster amounts of it. On the how fast a falcon will go, just remember this... "There is no substitution for cubic inches." heh...
78 F150 400m, c6, holley carb and intake, cam, and some other goodies
87 F150 460, c6, 2800 stall converter, eagle hbeam's, eldelbrock intake carb, crane cam sat spec., balanced and blue printed, 10.5-1 compression, heads ported and polished, full msd setup, everything but roller, aluminum heads, and laughing gas(as for now).

460 has a long stroke... I suppose if you had it PROPERLY balanced, with good rod bolts (ARP Pro series) and all the proper strengthening stuff like New high quality rods, pistons, and everything designed to run up high rpms, then you can run it up to 7grand or better...
STOCK... Dont take it past 4800. I learned this lesson.

My engine dynoed at the specs shown below, I can run it up to 5000 r...I have better than 420 lb ft from IDLE to 4100 rpmm. so Its not like it's not ENOUGH... but that all depends on what you think is enough.
As for your "how fast" question... It depends on how you build the engine. If you build it relatively high rpm horsepower, and build it right, you could have EASILY a 10-Second car... maybe even in the 9's..

That 10 second car was what I wanted to hear. I know that the 351 Clevos moved those old Falcons to 14 seconds no wories at all while still retaining good street manners (11 seconds with a good cam, pistons etc), so I figured that another 109 cubes could only be a good thing. I want a fast car yes, but I don't want nitrous or anything like that which will destroy the engine before too long, or make it unstreetable, therefore I'm not into superchargers.
Will I be able to fit the 460 unconspicuiously under the Falcon's bonet without it sticking out (a shaker to a police car is like waving a red flag at a bull)?
With that nice 7 grand top rpm, I could make the falcon do 160 mph no worries at all with a 4 speed gearbox. I know the 351 Cleverland here in Australia was mated to the toploader, no probs, but does anyone know if a Ford toploader gearbox is tough enough to hanle a big 460 Ford V8? Or will I have to get a Ford Borg-Warner or an aftermarket 5 speed box?

The top loader is now sold as a Jerico and used in almost every NASCAR Winston cup car.
They came behind the Boss 429's and are tough enough for a built 460.
