dont take this the wrong way, but are you sure you put the thermostat in the right way? i heard a guy saying just the other day and his engine was running hot and he went to check the thermostat and it was in backwards. and now that i think about it, i cant remember which direction the damn thing goes but i know if it were backwards that would be bad. anyway, just my two cents and good luck with it.

I've also had this problem with my truck, It's been going on for 2 years now. I have replaced everything including the motor since it had 300,000+ miles on it. I've talked to some shops around my area and the two answers I've gotten were. Possible head gasket problem or if the motor has been bored more the .040 over it could cause the overheating problem.
Good luck and if you figure it out let me know what you did so I can try it on mine

What about your head gaskets? Has this motor been torn into?? As for a larger bore being the problem, I seriously doubt it on the "385 Series" engines. 335 series engines might have this problem occasionally if you go .060 or bigger, but not 429/460. They both have very thick walls.

Just my 2 cents worth. Make sure thermostat is in the right way depending on style pellet side into the motor. Number 2 make sure you have the right water pump. On some Fords with serpentine belts they run the pump backwards and the impellers are setup different. Had this issue come up once on another make vehicle and it would run hot. Also a bad radiator cap can cause this issue. Had a small block Ford that the cap was bad on and it really wasn't running to hot but would puke antifreeze into the over flow all the time. Also if everything is right and you have a 195 degree stat in the motor 200-215 degrees is not out of line especially for summer driving.

I checked the thermostat the other day and it is installed with the pellet facing the motor. I'm not sure about the water pump being for the serpintine drive yet. I have a 180 degree thermostat in this truck and the temp runs around 210 going down the Highway and when I slow down to below 45 or when I'm climbing a hill or pulling something the temp passes 230
