Same problem with my 06. 11,000 miles and the electronic shift motor failed, no 4x4. It was replaced under warranty.

I would pretty ticked if the one time I needed 4x4 and it didn't work. Oh well, at least you will have it fixed for the next time.

I had the same exact problem. I had an 06 with 11k and it went bad. Maybe they got a bad batch of them.

I forgot to add this. Must people say if it every happens to take a hammer and tap on the shifter motor. Some of them will freeze up from not using them. If you take it to the dealer they will replace it. It does not take them long at all for them to do it.

You need to engage your 4x4 unit periodically to keep the 4wd unit lubricated and working.

Yes you are right. If you do not they can freeze up over time. I think they had a bad batch shipped for 2006 though because I have seen quite a few 2006's with 10k that it went bad.

This is why I will only buy a 4x4 with a manual transfer case.I pulled my dad's f150 out 3 times because his electronic 4x4 wouldn't engage when he needed it the most.

I don't understand why anyone would want electronig 4X4. It's far more problem prone and it doesn't allow the truck to be towed with the wheels on the ground like the manual 4X4 does. I very easily move my manual lever about an inch to engage 4X4 and it works every time. I got it mainly because of the ability to tow it with either 2 or 4 wheels on the ground.

I have to agree with osbornk, I had to have the dealer do a search to find an f150 with the manual transfer case. I tow mine all over the country with a towbar. The 4x4 has really gotten a work-out this year, and I don't mind reaching down and pulling the shifter back 1 inch.

This is why I bought my XLT.I don't think you can get a FX4 or a Lariat with a manual transfer case. The flow through console would have been nice but....
Please don't laugh at my towel seat covers.I remove them everyday when I get home from work.

They don't freeze up. The contact plates inside rust up and the module can't tell what position the motor is in. so for safety it doesn't allow shifting. Get your truck scanned for codes. I think the shift motor fault was P1867 or P1687. One of the two.

I do this from time to time even with my manual equipped trucks (hubs,tc,front diff, axles) all need a work out from time to time.

The manual stuff is sometimes a pain to engage, but there is no excuse not to use the touch button system. (every week or so).
