let me pic your brains, 94.5 stroker, i live in new york, temps range from 0 in the winter to 90 in the summer, in the heat of the summer mine barely pops into normal range, but runs fine, will i benifit from a stat change? is it safe to run in the summer with the high heat?

For the 96 and 97 its a pretty safe bet it will have a long stem waterpump. the 94 and 95's it more of a crap shoot.
Thanks Tim, Ill order one soon.

Ozzy: The Dieselsite page with the 203 thermostat says that Ford recommends changing the thermostat out every year. It also says they did a test with one of their shop trucks and found that it was weak and running cooler after about 3 years.

I have never had to worry about a thermostat all of my life unless it was stuck shut, but after my experience, I will bet that there are a lot of OBS trucks running around at cooler than optimum temps. My truck runs so much better I feel like keeping a spare around!

No, I removed the plastic. The temp gauge will warm up to just over 200 and then quickly fall back to about 190. I must admit I forgot to take it off when I ran the test drive and it went up to about 210 and held there until I stripped away the plastic.
Thanks very much for your help, you had it pegged. My truck is very pleasant to drive now!

As I understand it Dieselsite is the only one offering a long stem 203 thermostat. I have not been able to find any information about identifying the new and old model water pumps by sight (without model numbers). So, the Dieselsite should work in your 97, but not in the original waterpump of your 94. It is possible that the water pump on your 94 may have been upgraded at some point. I also see that Dieselsite has a 203 degree thermostat that has a short stem and will work on the old style waterpump.

This is the link to the dieselsite thermostat and the page has some good reading on it:
http://www.dieselsite.com/index.asp?...ROD&ProdID=186

If I am incorrect on this please correct me guys.
