1948 - 1952 Questions

Are 48 and 52 Ford truck beds the same length and width? I have a 48 and would like to put a 52 on it. I have the measurements for the 48 if any has measurements for a 52?

Thanks jm

I'm not an expert, but I believe they are the same. I put a '52 tailgate in my 54 just because I like the Ford script better than the block letters. If you go to some of the sites where they sell new beds, you can probably get dimensions from there.

The bed sides are different. One has a recess and the fenders are cut for that. The later beds are smooth sided and the fenders dont have the cut. I think it started in late 50?

The 48-50 beds have a raised panel in the sides of the bed as well as rounded stake pockets. The late 50-52 and up beds have flat bed sides with square stake pockets. Dimensionally they are the same and should bolt right up

I am putting a 51 bed on my 48 and have it setting on the frame. everything looks ok and like some one said earlier the side panels on a 48 thru early 50 have raised panels and the fenders are made to match these panels. I got new fenders and will show pics when I get smoking. Seems like we need more patience than we have to do these projects. I have been working on mine this September will be 3 years. Hope to be riding before then.

If you have 48-50 rear fenders they will have to be modified to bolt onto the later bed-difference in the mounting at the raised bedside.

I plan to put a 52 on my 50. But do the bed sides like RJ did his. So it won't be a problem. (I hope)

I am very fortunate to have a son who is very good at welding and fabrication and also a very good machinist. We also do drag racing and he has a very good buddy who works with him on drag cars who is an excellent body and paint man. We are all impatient about completing projects so that is why we feel like we are lagging behind. Most people I know seem to take forever to complete their projects. I feel like I have waited half my life wanting this truck and don't want to spend the rest working on it. I too am a senior, retired and that seems to have a lot to do with it.
