DT swap info

hey guys, I plan to run a DT in my bronco eventually. I've tried searching but haven't had much luck, ( I know it's ben done I just cant find it ) finding any info or sites on this. ie motor and trans mounts, adapters, etc

and I don't want a cummins, b'c it seams like there a dime a dozen (no offense) and I'd prefer to stick with an all ford/Int truck.

I already have plans to strengthen the frame and suspension, to handle the extra wight and torque.

Thanks

The 466 is going to be a job, as it extends into the cab a bit, and is a bit tall. It can be done, but takes a lot of fab work. The 360 is more proper size, but since it isn't a common thing to do, you will have to fab it yourself. The early Cummins installs had to be full fabbed, until someone realized there was a market and started producing the parts. I fabbed up my own on the Cummins install I did, it really isn't all that bad.

thats cool I don't mind having to fab stuff up, figured I'd get a parts truck like a 4900 or something to rob off of, and for measurements.

didn't know if there were any sites like fordcummins or not.

Well, not really, but fordcummins is a sales site, you can bounce ideas off the guys at cummins-conversion.com though, it is mostly tech, done by those of us that have done the conversions. Might even get the owner to set up other motors as well... another place to look into would be thedieselgarage.com, they have a diesel conversion discussion area as well.

Having swapped a DT360 out of an International truck and replaced it with a DT466 I believe there would be far less fabbing on your swap with the DT360 as its not as tall or as long. Basically the mounts are the same, they are just closer together on the DT360.
One of the cheapest sources for used engines and parts would be to shop the used school bus market, at least up here in the rust belt, they are next to worthless when they are 15 years old. You just need to be willing to take the whole bus and scrap what you don't use.

That is no issue for me, but do you have any suggestions where I could get into the bus arena? I haven't found that market yet...

I'd suggest a 360 also. They are right around 1200 pounds, and if you plan on big power, it will handle it. The rest of the drive train may not like it. I've seen a few DT360s over the past year go for $1500, very low demand.
You may try asking these guys where to find a junked bus:

In Iowa the International bus dealer is Hoglund Bus in Marshalltown; www.hoglundbus.com

The Thomas/Freightliner dealer is Thomas Bus Sales in Des Moines;
1-800-362-2092

The Bluebird dealer is School Bus Sales in Waterloo;
www.sbsales.com

These new bus dealers get all makes tradeins and may have some "gems" in the back row they don't bother listing on their websites.

Other than that, Vander Haags truck salvage in Des Moines or Council Bluffs may have some but once they hit there they generally "harvest" the desireable components and the price goes up.

Buying from Vander Haag's can get expensive... they tend to do as you mention. Hoglund does have some decent prices it looks like...

For custom injectors:
http://www.columbusdieselsupply.com/tp7c.php
or:
http://dieselperformancesolutions.co...ullingFuel.htm
They can make you just about any power level you need. Another DT466 swap guy I know is using the D' Perf Solution injectors & they guaranteed it to make 450hp with the right turbos.
