Help. Building a 1996 460

Hi. I have a 1996 F-350 4X4 Crew Cab 460. I'm looking to rebuild the motor to put out more HP and torque. I tow around 7,000 to 9,000 lbs. I installed a K&N and a Magnaflow muffler. I'm now interested in replacing the headers, heads, cam, throttle body, etc... what ever takes. I'm looking for suggestions that will maintane a good daily driver, but give me the extra umpf I need for towing. I'm currious to know what the extra gains I will get with the proposed modifications that anyone suggests. I'm sure there are tons of postings out there with the answers, but I'm looking more for my specific application. I'm not to savy on the different brands available and which ones are concidered to be high end and the price of this stuff. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

P.S. The truck is equiped with MAF.

Sounds like you are looking for tons of low end torque. I would suggest a RV type camshaft, long tube headers, a good timingchain that doesn't have the 4 degree retard built in, and a mild port job on the heads. I wouldn't do too much porting because this will lower the velosity of the air fuel mixture and will hurt your low end, it will increase top end power though. You may want to mill the heads a little bit to bump up compression a little. I'm not sure if anyone offers an aluminum intake (such as an Edelbrock Performer) for the 460EFI.
Your 96 may have the OBD-II electronics on it. So you may have to use the eliminator kit for the rear O2 sensors to keep the check engine light off.

Thanks for the input. Instead of porting the heads, any suggestions on maybe new heads? Any manufactures better than others? Also, what brand of RV cam would you recommend? I was looking at Crane online, they seem to have good selection. Thanks.

As far as I know there are no aftermarket heads available for your application, as there is no demand for them. You may want to look at project M.P.G. for ideas.

As far as a cam, since you have a MAF you have a lot more flexability of cams you can use. I suggest the Extreme 4X4 cams by comp cams, they have a good idle and hoards of bottem end grunt.

I wouldn't bother with a larger throttle body as the stock one is huge as it is. AA larger throttle body won't increase bottom end anyhow. You will want to fab a nice cold air intake.

A O2 sensor eliminator box is not required post cat unless you are going to remove the cat, which is a bad idea on so many levels.

Anyways these are a few things that come to mind, good luck with the build.
