EFI on engine swap

EFI on engine swap
I have an 89 302 with EFI and an AOD transmission. Just have a few questions.
If I were to find a fuel injected 460 what year range would I have to pull it out of? Also, would a c6 or E4OD transmission fit in my truck, or would there be issues there as well?
My biggest concern is the computer. Will it accept a 460, or will it have a fit?
Thanks

You should probably stay around the same years 87-90 as they will both be eecIV engine control system, the only difference maybe that your 302 maybe mass air metered and the 460 will be speed density. But if they are both speed density then all the connectors and sensors will be the same, but you will need to use the 460 processor. Ther was no aod behind the 460 just the c6 or the e4od, but the e4od is computer controlled so if you don't miss the overdrive use the c6. There is an excellent book titled How to Understand,Modify the Ford Feul Injection system. It is a excellent book esy to read with many wiring schematics. Eric

If you have the mass air meter. The meter will be just behind the air box and there will be four wires leading from the top of it you cannot miss it, If its speed density you will have a map sensor mounted on the firewall. Chances are its speed density and the computer should behind the right kick panel, in the cab. If you plan on using the e4od tranny just grab all the wiring harness from the donor truck and swap the harnesses with the one you in your truck. If you get the 460 and e4od from the same donor truck just grab the related wiring harness, computer and swap the wiring harness as well as the engine and transmission.

Any fuel injected 460 should work. The only difference being California models without air injection, and with an airflow sensor. And OBDII models may have some sensor and injector differences, however the long block should be identical through all the years. If in doubt just swap all the parts from ane engine to the next.
