Dave Williams was a mainstay of the Fordnatics mailing list in early Internet days for several years before forums became popular. Haven't seen him post in a long time. He always knew what he was talking about. Here's his original webpage:

Check his opinion of hardened exhaust valve seats.

I never seen a need for hardened seats anyway

I guess he also answered our question as to why they don't forge hypereutectics.

I dont think I would use forged unless I needed to, I agree with him.

Most guys never had any problems with hypers. The guys that do, have lots of problems with them. Which suggests to me it must be something they are doing, not the piston.

I'm glad to have a set, but wish I could decide on a ring gap

Dave Williams came out of the woodwork when I posted a query. He has a personal machine shop and always had something interesting going on. Judging by his response, he's still fielding a few projects:

I'm right here. Well, since a couple of weeks ago, anyway. My old
chaos.lrk.ar.us account finally went away, and the mustangworks server
was apparently broken; it just sent various snotty messages when I tried to resubscribe. Finally it decided to work again, and here I am...

Just the usual madhouse around here. TRX' new engine is still on the
stand, the turbo Buick swap into the B2000 turned into a box of snakes
that I haven't finished up yet, the turbo Buick that was going to go
into the B2000 is slated for installation into my newly-acquired '80
Malibu station wagon, I just acquired a turbo setup for my wife's Geo
Metro, the V8 Harley still isn't finished, and I haven't had time to do much with the two-wheel-drive Wankel bike project lately.

I guess I should be glad I'm not BORED or anything.

So, he's on the mustangworks server now? I went to mustangworks.com and didn't see much there to do with him, except for 2 articles I already seen about belts and weights.

I finally read everything at angelfire and geocities, atleast everything to do with engines.
I had to wait awhile for tripod to start working again to finish up there, they got that silly limit on how much you download at a time.

I'd like to *absorb* some more if possible
