And now we start with the what if's. The US Gear / Gear Vendors o/d unit is always an option for long trips, or maybe even piggybacking two or three of them. Since the 460 makes such ungodly torque, I don't think 800 (not 8000) rpm at 80 mph will be a problem. But at $2500 a pop, here's another concept. Take a divorced 205, flip it around, and put it in 4L to get 50% overdvive unit. Don't know if the bearings inside the 205 can handle it, or the heat it mould create, but a concept. Ideas?

hey that reply about 50 miles per tank isnt funny....actually it is cuz it hits so close to home for me. i have an 89 f350 4door duall with 4.10's and it gets 6.5 babyin it and 6.4 goin ***** to the wall. so i get about 90 miles per tank....heh. taught me to drive it with my foot to the floor all the time though.

Anyone got better than 15MPG in a 460/429?

I bought a brand new 78 F-150 2 wheel drive, 460, C-6, 3.50 gear, Lariat. With about 5000 miles on it I got 14.5 mpg between Phoenix and Yuma, round trip. Pretty flat ground. I think you would have to go some to get much better. It's possible, but $5K to get 1 or 2 mpg isn't feasible is it?

Dennis, what's the conversion rate from Imp. to U.S. gal.

The exact conversion is on the g.C. forum in the fuel pricing thread.

A quick reference is add 20% for the IMP gallon.

Replaced leaking fuel pump and increased from 12 MPG to 15 MPG!

Oh, and I am running 5.13s gears. Can you believe it.(Thought I was running 4.10s till I double checked) I have checked the MPG several times. Only droped back to 12MPG when I went slow in some hilly terrain. 4spd devorced NP 205.

(I don't bring in those second set of jets unless I am next to a Chevy or Doggy)

Waahooooo!

Greg
