Thumbs down White smoke, no power, clicking now DEAD! Grr

Ok, I have had my 2008 6.4L supercrew for about 3 weeks and have 1,500 miles on it. About 20 miles after I left the dealership I heard a clicking noise, saw ALOT of white smoke coming out the back and realized I had no response from the throttle. This happened for about 15-20 seconds and just as I was pulling off the road it was fine. Me being the dummy I am I did not take it back to the dealership. I had another incident exactly the same about a week ago but it only lasted for a few seconds.

THis morning It did the same thing but never got better. I coasted to the side of the road and shut the engine off. When I tried to crank it, it turned over but never started.

I had to have roadside assistance tow me in to the dealership. I tried to crank it again and it still woujld not start(no error lights on the dash either). It took them about 5 hours to get my truck in to check it out and they said it cranked right up and they are not sure whats wrong with it and said it could be a sticking injector? Anyone with this problem? GRRRRRRR

The TSB mentioned in above thread covers intermittant no starts.

Hope your dealer doesn't just blow you off and that they have some good techs.

Cool

ok I picked it up from the dealer today and they said that they could not find anything wrong with it and that it started right up by the time they got to it. They told me if it happened again then to bring it back in....ummmm I just had it towed in because of this "mystery problem". I asked about the regen mode getting stuck and they looked at me wandering what I was talking about.

It freaks me out to think I know more than the technician who is working on my $50,000 truck! How can they not know what the regen cycle is? WTF?

I figured out that on some of the new 08's the regen will get "stuck" and cause strange noises, no power and lots of white smoke. The way to correct this is to reprogram.

So now I have to wait until it happens again, call RA, miss another meeting, and then wait for the tech to tell me that there is nothing wrong....

I will always look at fuse 74 from now on....My truck was not in regen or smoking when I turned it off but fuse 74 was my problem......I would not trust your eyes...I did and wasted money and time. If I had multi-metered the fuse I would have saved all the way around.

Job 2 trucks are updates.

Here is a list of Technical Service Bulletins concerning the 6.4L. TSB 07-8-9 could apply to the problem you are having. The technician has to follow the specific guide on diagnostics.

TSB 07-26-7 is for trucks built prior to 9/18/07 Air induction system restriction
TSB 07-26-5 trucks built before 12/17/2007 and equipped with electronic
automatic temperature control. Inoperative blower motor
TSB 07-26-4 A/C slow to cool built before 6/28/07
TSB 07-26-2 built prior to 8/20/07 Lack of power DTC P0003 and or blown Fuse 74
TSB 07-24-2 Heater core noise built before 6/18/2007
TSB 07-23-9 Belt chip on cold start caused by an idler pulley
TSB 07-17-3 PCM update built before 7/30/2007
TSB 07-11-5 Over heating with plow installed on vehicles without the factory plow package
TSB 07-8-9 Applies to all builds. 6.4L diesel may exhibit one or more of the
following concerns: lacks power, leaks oil, fuel or coolant from the tail pipe,
abnormal tailpipe sediment, white smoke or ash, exhaust smell, knock or rattle,
elevated idle, surge, crankcase oil level over-full, MIL On, DTC's P0087, P2291,
P0263-P0284, P0300-P0308, P1336, P132B, P2262, P2263, P244C or P244D
07-7-7 Applies to all builds. Exhaust odor inside the vehicle, and/or exhaust smoke
may be visible from the front of the vehicle.

It may cover almost everything but the tech has to follow the diagnostics and not cut corners.

Thanks for that info! I hav also noticed it idles a little high sometimes and it has a distinct smell from the exhaust. Although it has been running great the last day or two.

If it is not doing it at the time runs his diagnostic then they cannot reflash r reprogram according to Ford.
