Air Cleaner ideas................
Season's Greetings everyone, look I was wondering if anyone has bought an aircleaner (not stock) that is some what easy on the eyes and does its job. I have a 239 flathead and want to put and element type air cleaner. I have the stock 2 barl carb. If anyone out there has any ideas or pics, it would be much appreciated.

I have a pic in my gallery, now the easy on the eyes part is up for debate . The pipe turns 90 degrees in front of the radiater and I has the biggest K&N filter I could fit in the nose of the hood. The incoming air is totly isolated from engine heat, Its simple and practicle but as you can see by the rest of the pics my truck is NO showtruck so it may not be what your looking for.

Mine's about like Brian's, I just used the tallest element that fit. It's real dusty here in NM, so I wanted the most filter area possible. The element that came with it was only an inch tall! The element is a NAPA #2299. I'd prefer one without an exposed element, haven't seen any I like.

Could use my MDD as a cover! Find the right sized SS pet dish, they come in a lot of different sizes: the small one I used for my AC cover was sold as a bird or small mammal cage dish, drill a hole in the center for the stud. Don't forget to pick one large enough to allow air to get to the element. If you don't already have a basic air cleaner like Brian's et al, whittle a base plate out of 3/16 aluminum plate after choosing dish and element.

The best covers to fit over the cleaner like Ross and Brians are from places like Big Lots, Marshalls, TJ Maxx, Ross, Kohls, and goodwill stores. They are called " Stainless Steel " mixing bowls. They come in a number of sizes and as a set for cheap since they come from China. Just drill a stud hole in the bottom and flip it over. They are deep (tall) enough to cover the paper element and look great and can be polished to a high luster. The best one I have come from and old Oster mixer at the DAV and has a nice base on it that held the bowl on the mixer spindle as it went around. It has a nice flange on the rim and looks like it was made for this very application. Just take your paper element with you to the store and check for fit. It does not need to sit flat at bowl bottom to seal and will self center. Mix-Master at goodwill 7.00, keep bowls, toss MM.Win-Win.
