Anyone have an old mirror bracket laying around?

My dad busted my drivers side mirror completely off my truck tonight.

The mirror is fine. The glass did not break (no clue why it didn't) and the mirror arm itself is fine. The part that goes into the door is what broke. I think they call it a bracket.

I still have the rubber grommet and all that. Half the part is still in the door. I have not looked at how to get it out of there yet.

Does anyone happen to have an extra one laying around on a shelf somewhere from when they put modern mirrors on their trucks?

Mine appears to be cast or I would try to weld it.

Thanks,
Brian

I may have a spare laying around in storage somewhere.
My mirror brackets are solid steele, so you shouldn't have a problem welding them up & even if it is cast, if you've Mig/Tig skills, it still should be rather easy.
The 2 bolts (either 1/2" or 9/16") holding it in place is in the front edge of the door.

I have a mig, but I didn't know you could weld cast with it. Never tried that.

I do not have a TIG (the shop dad works in does), but I don't know how to use it.

I will talk to dad tomorrow and see if he can get somone from the shop to try the tig. It is worth a try.

I will talk to dad tomorrow. If he thinks one of the guys at work can do it...we will try.

I will definately let you know one way or the other. Thanks.

I have never used a TIG or tried to weld cast.

If it's magnetic you can weld it with Mig or Tig. If it isn't it's white metal (I suspect if it snapped that easily) and can't be welded. I don't think I have an extra one, and won't be able to look until after Xmas. Mid Fifty has them if all else fails. It's called a mirror base arm and sells for 18.00.

It appears to be non-ferrous (not iron to the rest of you ). I think it is some sort of cast pot-metal.

It actually snapped just inside the door. Where it broke...it appears to be about 1/8" thick in a "C" shape. Even if it were steel and could be welded...that would not hold real well.

Mason...If you are sure you have one...shoot me a PM and we can work something out.

Oh...I found out how he broke it. He was walking near the truck after dark (it is parked away from everything) and he tripped on something. His head hit the mirror pretty solid and it just snapped. No clue why the mirror glass didn't break. It fell on the gravel.

according to MF catalog they were designed to snap off as a safety feature (to the door not to people!).

Apparently the design works......

The mirror bracket is broken quite nicely and he does not have a bump on his head.

Thanks for checking Bill. Mason has not been online for a few days. He may or may not have one.
