I would put some money into head porting and higher compression ratio pistons, added with a good cam package and the Performer parts, with 750 cfm carb, headers, and a hotter, recurved D.U.I. distributor to match it all.

I would probably look at around 9:1. If you put flat tops with D0VE C heads, (or C8VE, C9) you get around 9.3:1.

Go to http://www.network54.com/Forum/85220/ for more detailed info and some ideas from some experts to get what you want out of your 385 series.

Hey, good luck with it! If you stay with a good pump gas combo, you should be happy. Make a wise choice on your cam so you don't have to change it again anytime soon. Look at the forum I sent you and browse around for ideas. You should find a build for your budget.

I know a guy who just had a 460 built with edelbrock rpm package. he started with a 68 and keith black small dish pistons. his compression is probably closer to 10:1. the factory heads were ported and polished. it dyno'd @ 500hp and 470tq on 91 octane!

Radical build? What do you mean... The 351C 4V CAME WITH 11:1 ratio pistons???

I know a guy who runs 9's all day in a 351C Mustang and C4...

Oh, haha! ok then... Did you ever dyno that thing? The power from the Cleveland comes from the high rpms it is capable of...
Have you raced it?

trinogt,

You said pick the right cam for your build. I am in that process now. Shooting for 550-600 horses in my mud drag f-150.Whats your thoughts on solid flat tappet cams vs hyd. flats? Aluminum edelbrocks, edel. rpm intake?, KB small dish for maybe 11:1. got to do cam lifters and pushrods anyway. already have alum. roller rockers. probably need to go to 6000rpm.

no i never took it to the track.it dynoed at 435.at 5200rpm which isnt very streeteable.i have 391 gears which ,4 barrel heads, thinking about useing the elebrock heads now available so i can make it more streetable.but first i want to get this 460 toghether and put toghether a good combo for it.
