which tires?? sorry i know this topic has been beaten to death

buying 33s for my stock 18 inch rims cuz i live in northern canada and all 35s i can find are mud tires and wouldn't be any good on ice. anyway found firestone destinations 33 X 12.5s at $255 each and toyo open country all terrains 33 X 12.5s at $280 each. looking for any insight, if anyone is familiar with either tire. also found mt atzs but they are $380 a tire and don't want to spend that much. found some silent armours that looked alright, but aren't quite 33s. anyone that could help would be much appreciated

I am looking to do the same thing right now and like you I do not want the aggressive mud type tread pattern. I am looking for a good All Terrain that is quiet and smooth on highway. I am currently looking at BFG Rugged Trail P275/70R18 and Michelins new LTX A/T2 LT275/70R18 both of which are right around 33".

Go to tirerack.com it is a great place to research by size and brand.

The Destination M/T and A/T are a great tire...I highly recommend the M/T...had them on my Bronco (pics in the gallery).

I'd look at BFG A/T KO's. They are rated as a "Severe Winter Weather" tire (snow tire, complete with the snowflake and mountain symbol). Most other A/T tires don't have the sipping to handle ice and aren't studdable. I have had a few sets and they work well in winter conditions. As close to a dedicated snowtire as you can get and still use when the ground is bare.
Just my .02.

I'd go with the BFG A/T. I just put them on my truck the past weekend and I can't wait for the snow to hit. I swear by these tires. I had 31's on my Pathfinder, and 33's 86 Bronco before I sold them and they lasted forever. Big thing is checking the tire pressure more often, and making sure to rotate them.
If you are worried about price though, they might not be the ones for you. But if you are willing to spend that extra bit, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

look into the Goodyear Silent Armor Pro Grade. I really like mine in those conditions, I just got them and they've been working very well for me in rain, wet snow, ice.

I agree that the Silent Armor are a good tire. I pull and load, close to max weights for my F-150 and I went with e-rates. They deliver some what of a harsh ride, and being 33's on 18 inch rims they were a bugger to get balanced. They are a very quiet tire, at speed, and an the street. I will soon see how they hold in snow.

thanks for the input. ordered 10 ply (e rated) silent armors 275/70/18 (33.2 inch). will the ride be that rough? they look real good. was gonna get them installed on friday..... i've got a 3" front and 1" rear lift, so don't want smaller than 33s. thought about bfg ats but they were more money. will inquire more about them from the local dealer tomorrow

Good choice. The BFGs are not as good of a tire as everyone here says they are. Go in the offroad forum, and ask in there(where people have really tested the tires), they might be ok in snow and dry condtions, but suck in everything else. They chunk on gravel roads, terrible in all wet condtions(other than snow), cost way to much, etc....
I know someone will try and argue with me, but I have seen first hand to many times to pay any attention to it.
