can i get good sound from my 300ci I6?
my 86 bronco needs a new muffler. i was just waondering if i can make it sound better. how do glasspacked or cherry bomb mufflers sound on an I6? i live in a county in ohio that requires an emissions test on my truck, would a glasspacked muffler make a difference in the results? the cat is in good shape and the truck runs great so i wouldnt thinks so but im not sure. ive never had to deal with emissions tests before so im kinda stupid when it comes to this crap. we didnt have these stupid tests in virgina. thanks for the help

I live in MA with emissions tests which are pretty harsh. I have a Gibson cat back on my I6 and sounds great and will pass. Glasspacks or even flowmasters will not have an effect on your emissions greatly because all they do is reduce noise.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 03-Apr-02 AT 01:01 AM (EST)]I have a 1990 I-6, and needed a new exhaust too, so I threw on a cherry bomb. It sounded good but wasnt want I wanted. I was looking for something more like a deep v-8 sound. It is loud and will rap pretty good at times. But I think after a while I began to loose power. I dont know if it was the exhaust or what, so I went back to the original set up and felt like I had the power back. I liked the sound though, it was kinda like a V-8, just not as clean sounding.

You can get good sound but you need to have the right muffler. I have a 79 F250 with 2.25" pipe back to a Flowtech Afterburner fully welded muffler. From there it goes out over the rear axle with 2.25" pipe and a 3.5" tip. The sound is mellow and deep with a slight lump to it. It rumbels nice at higher RPMs (2,500+) and when you down shift to compression brake it lumps hard. Lots of folks don't even believe that it is a six. In fact on ald rodder that I know made me prove that it was a six by opening the hood. I'll try to get a good recording of it and post it on the web.
