It was fun and very interesting. We actually toured everything including special tours only available to overnighters. I like the tower tour, teo of those guides actully had stories of when they served on the ship.
I spent the weekend on a carrier with my son's scout troop. Really educational and fun, but sleeping the triple bunks! WOW!
Those triple bunks had pretty good headroom compared to what we had on the carrier I was on - ours had our locker built into the bunk so your mattress laid on the lid of your locker. If you sat up quick - wham.
I'll bet the kids will never forget that adventure.
And people wonder why I enjoyed the Air Force so much! I don't know that I would have anjoyed those accomodations as much as ours. Tripple bunkin did occur but it was of a nature not to be discussed on this forum )
Yeah, roughing it in the Air Force means the cable is out in the one man room.
I actually had a SSgt in my squadron complain that he had a roomate during a recent drill weekend. I laughed remembering my active duty days when I had 26 roomates.

Going on Tiger Cruises as a kid contributed to my joining the Air Force instead of the Navy. I loved the idea of traveling on the ship, but sleeping in less space than a coffin wasn't for me.
Hopefully my own son can get used to it. He graduates at Great Lakes next Wednesday.
Those look like medical racks. No storage or curtains for privacy. All three of my ships have had better accomodations than that, and one of them was the USS Belleau Wood (LHA-3).
Did you get up to vulture's row and watch some flight ops? That's pretty incredible to watch- and loud.

Sleeping in a coffin builds character.....although I will admit to liking the room the Air Force provides me much better. Sometimes I get the Hampton Inn for drill weekends.
Your son is getting out of Great Mistakes at a good time - it gets mighty cold there this time of year. I did late November to late January.....froze my a** off.
