a/c leak in cab

has anyone had a problem with the pass. side floor board being wet from the a/c drain. I talked to my dealer about it and he said that there is a problem with the drain in the 04 f 150's, but wants me to drop it off so they can make sure its not the windsield. I pulled back the carpet and only after 5 to 10 minutes of running the air I can see a small stream of water running down from under the black mat almost on the firewall. My truck is out of factory warrenty with 68,000 plus miles, but a purchased an extended warrenty when i bought the truck through my bank. Not sure if they will cover a bad design from the factory. Any help will be appreciated as to wether our not i can do it my self or pay 80$ ant hour at the dealer. Thanks in advance

The drain tube might be plugged or have come undone.

It really sound like the drain tube is plugged up. The end of the tube has a valve that keeps out side air from entering. What happens is dirt and water makes mud. Then it drys and hardens, and plugs it up. Some times you have to squeeze (the end) it to make them clean out.

I think the tube comes out of the firewall somewhere. Can anyone confirm?

It does, generally on the passenger side firewall. Down below the evap unit. near the floor board. Look for a black tube, normally 4-5" long.

You normally do not need to take it off. Just squeeze the end, if it's plugged a bunch of water will come out. Do not run any thing in side the tube. It it can come off there will be a bolt holding a clamp.

i too have this same problem, and i have tried to find the ac drain, but havent been able to find it. i do however see a tube (more like a small diameter pipe) which points straight down towards the ground. i cannot tell where it is coming from, but it isnt something that could be "squeezed".... might i be overlooking the correct tube somehow? id really like to get this one figured out !!! thanks !!!

A lot of time they are near the frame. A tube going down. If it's under the ac unit it may be it. If it's a tube is not compressable, you can try running a short piece of something in it. But do not go any further that 1" more than the length. You do not want to get into the coil. If the tube is removable, take it off and clean it. I have had a few which I had to remove the whole inside unit to fix the drains. The seal on the case was bad, and had leaves inside of it plugging the drain up, along with 1/2" of mud. This is not for the novice. Requires the AC freon to be recovered and lines taken loose to remove it.
