I'm planning on running fenderwell headers on my 78 F-250, and running 2 1/2" pipe back with Magnaflow mufflers, dumping after the cab. My questions is how much does the placement of the muffler in the exhaust system effect exhaust tone? I've seen some setups where the mufflers are placed right off the header collector with pipe running a few feet back before it dumps, and others where pipe is run off the collector with the muffler placed at the end of the pipe with a short turndown afterwards. Any thoughts?

Generally the more pipe after the muffler the deeper the tone. No pipe after the muffler usually means a harsher tone.
