Titan Fuel Tank Installed - Pics

I have an 08 F-250 CC SB and I feel like I live at the fueling station, so I decided to upgrade my fuel tank. I chose the 52 gallon Titan Fuel Tank (www.titanfueltanks.com) which is made from cross linked polyethylene. The tank weighs ~50# empty. The install was super simple and took me about an hour. The folks at Titan were very helpful and someone always answered the phone when I called. I ordered the tank on Tuesday and it showed up 2 days later. I should get 700+ miles range with this tank when I'm unloaded and 500+ when towing.

Packaging was very good.

The tank. 52 gallons!!!

This is a shot of the sending unit opening. There are two flanges, o-rings and the tank. The tank was about 1/2" thick.

Here is a size comparison with the stock tank.

Another comparison.

And yet one more comparison from the other end.

A shot from the top.

The install was pretty simple. Remove the tank, move the sending unit to the new tank, connect the vent lines and reinstall the tank. This is what the tank looks like when it's ready to go back into the truck.

The tank hangs down about the same place as the stock tank. It is also tapered from the front to the rear and also has a slight taper in the rear. The guy at Titan said they do this so that the low fuel light will go on at the same time as it does with the stock tank.

Very nice. I was debating between this and the auxillary tank that goes in your bed. I'm going with the bed one. 50 gallons extra for about 600 plus 200 for install.

One other little bit of information. When I filled the tank at the fuel station the pump shutoff when it was completely full. I was only able to squeeze another 1/4 gallon into the tank. I could always pump another 4+ gallons into the OEM tank after the pump shutoff.

The stock tank looks like it has a heat shield on but the new one didn't. Did Titan mention anything about this?

The shield on the OEM tank appears to be more for protecting it from things deflecting off the drive line, then a heat shield. To be honest I didn't ask them about the shield as I did not see it until I pulled the stock tank. I might have to call them and see what they say. I could always modify the stock shield with rotozip and install it on the new tank for partial coverage. Hmmm, maybe a project for next weekend. LOL!

Did they have a way of reprogramming the system computer so that the trip computer shows the correct amount of fuel?

afreemanmd,
Thanks for the info. I asked the same question on another thread about the transferflow unit. They did not have a program yet for the 08'. I was just wondering if titanfueltanks figured this out yet.
I'm wanting to put an aftermarket fuel cell in my truck but am waiting for the computer to be able to get updated as well.

I"m also planning on adding a bigger tank but the added strength of the transfer-flow seems appealing over a "plastic" one , but the titan does look good. Decisions, decisions... When I called transfer flow they also said they don't have a way to reprogram the computer...

Titan claims in their installation literature on their website that they have an "optional" Titan Shield to put on the tank similar to the factory unit. I wonder what they charge for that.

Did your tank hold 52 gallons as advertised? Reason i asked is they state on their website that all gallon ratings are estimates.
