Location of FE 352 serial number on 66 F100

Hi folks. I've searched and found lots of references to casting numbers. What I have not found is a reference to where the engine serial number is located.I need to be able to show a number when taking the truck to register it. If there isn't one I will have to stamp one on the block somewhere!

Won't be one unless the motor was an industrial engine or a rebuild by a volume rebuilder.

Thanks Bear. Looks like I'll have to stamp a number on it.The department policy here in Australia is,no number= no registration. I'll just use the Vin. Do you know where on the block they stamped the number for industrial engines? Cheers.

Usually there was a plate rivited to the block on the right side (passenger side) in front of the bellhousing mounting flange.

Are you sure the number has to be on the engine since it is a removable item?

The VIN number is on top of the passenger (your driver) side frame rail about where the front axle passes under. The frame rail is permanent to the truck the engine is not. But what do I know?????

Funny that with all the Fords running around Australia, they wouldn't know that they don't have the VIN number stamped on the blocks... Or was it only FE's?

Weird.

Fords thru the late 1940's were registered by a serial number (aka engine number), originally stamped in several places on engine, hogshead and frame.

Because engines were frequently changed, and then the serial number wouldn't match, beginning in the late 1940's, a Vehicle ID Number was initiated. The entire vehicle is numbered by the VIN, not just the engine.

Why Ford of Australia would be different is unknown to me.

The VIN number is stamped on the flat area behind the intake on the motors here in the USA. (that is when they did em, not all were)

Thanks to everyone for the info. As it stands here, when registering a vehicle which has been unregistered for more than 3 months, the vehicle has to be presented to a registration branch. They view the chassis No / Vin and the engine number. Though the numbers don't have to match there must be both. Certainly on the first Falcons here around 1960 there was an engine number on the left rear of the block near the oil pressure switch.A different prefix depending on engine size. Around the late 60s/early 70s , the engine number was also the chassis number. More recently the last part of the Vin is also the engine number. Though the engine can be changed over the years,
generally the letters in the engine number and Vin will remain the same. The FE blocks were all imported before the engine number rules were in force.I've spoken to someone here who had a 63' 390Galaxie. They had to stamp an engine number on it before registering it in recent years. Way back I guess it didn't matter.
Cheers.

Hello Bluegrassfive, I'm starting to restore and sell trucks as a side business, I have right now a 66 f250 with a 352 engine that's being completely rebuilt, and will be looking into possibly shipping and selling overseas, one of my interests is Australia, is there a good market for these trucks there? Are they easy to come by? How much (average) do they sell for? Thanks for your time, hope to hear back from you. My email is rogelioaraizap@hotmail.com if you are interested in replying or in more info. Have a good day, Rogelio Araiza.
