water leaking thru top of rear window!!

sorry o2, but i have been a mechanic for 38 years. i still recomend putting siliicon sealer on the outside between the plastic trim and the painted roof. no water will get to the window and you wont have to worry about what is inside. how can it be easier to work inside with the trim and head liner wehen all you have to do is climb in teh bed and spend 20 minutes with a cauling tube?? your putting it on a painted cab!

Hey 02Crew did you find anything out? I need to know if i need to buy more before i leave work today, if you can. What does the foam gasket do? It should seal it right, that way water doesnt sit in there and rust stuff out? I may not put that tape there, the org. foam gasket might still be good. Ill have to check.

bob your good with one roll, the plastic trim is not sealed with butyl. one more think to check is, if you have a factory slider in the truck check the top center part of the frame sometimes they crack and can leak from the crack also.bob do you know that you dont have to take off the trim to pull the window out?ild just unbolt the window and save yourself alot of time. i think that youll see what i mean when you start taking off the interior plastic trim. shawn121074@yahoo.com if you need it bob. good luck shawn. *****go sox****

-Removed all the nuts
-Went into the bed and pryed the window off(i thought i was going to have to remove the toolbox, but the window came out with it still there)
-Put some towels on the tailgate and placed the window on the towels
-Scraped off old butyl tape and wiped down sealing surface with mild solvent
-Put the butyl tape on the window and placed it back in the truck
-Got in the truck and tightened the nuts up
-Got the water hose and sprayed it and.............NO LEAKS
Over the last couple of days it has rained and there are no leaks.
Tomorrow im getting my windows tinted finally.

Rear window leak 2004-08 f150
When i purchaced my 2007 truck in 2010 with 38,000k k replaced all the bulbs as i have done with any used vehicle i have purchaced i noticed the 3rd brakelight weatherstriping was shifted but still on the lens housing today went through carwash and wtf had a waterfall onto my back seat saw other posts on this problem saying to silcone the lens better idea is to use butle strips so when you have to replace burnt out bulb you can remove lens without breaking it

There are two types of silicone sealant. One is an acid cure and one is neutral cure. Acid cure is used to seal glass to glass, it etches the glass and gives the silicone something to hold on to. The neutral is used for metal to metal, metal to plastic, plastic to plastic, etc.
However use the right material for the job. In this case unless I was really broke ($) I would use the urethane.
