winter oil

well all. I'm in need of some advice. winter is just around the corner here. we already have snow in the mountains. last winter the truck was less than eager to start. I know there are a lot of thing that contribute to a good start ' but I was wondering if I should switch to a lighter oil. last winter days were in the single digits and low teens during the day our low was -35* or so. what oil would all the wise minds recomend? any thing I should avoid? thanks for all your your help j>

Ditto, synthetics are the way to go. It's more expensive but so is the engine. The cold starts are great, the noise (clunk & rattle) is almost none existant.

Yep I would run rotella 5W40 synthetic for winter oil. I have also had some success with rotella 10W30 in both this truck and my previous. But I did cook a turbo running it in this truck (thrust bearing). not sure if it was the cause but it didn't help.

If you need to plug in the truck there must be something wrong. I seldom plug it in. When I do it's on a timer to save on electricity (1300 watts). Mine fires up 20-30 below, I don't see those temps too often but it always starts. It's nice to have a warm(er) truck in the morning my .02

I see some split between syn 5-30 and 5-40 what is the advantages of each what should help the truck start better, is there any risk with either in warmer weather, thanks again J
