truck died today then started and ran fine

On my way home from work my truck was running fine the all of the sudden at a light i could here a little knock like the engine was hitting something under the hood. when i went to take off from the light it took all it had to get to 50 then it wouldnt even hold 30 so i pulled off the road to see what was up and it died when i pulled off. I tried restarting it and it cranked for a while and with me giveing it gas i go tti to run but not good. pulled the fuel filter cab off and checked to see if it was full and it was then i wiggled c00ns 10k mod and then decided to switch tanks cus the one i was on was a little under 1/8 tank. tried starting agian and it took it a while to crank up and whe it did it was rough than after flooring it a couple of time it clear up and i drove it the rest of the way home and it ran as good as it ever did. I have to take it to school tonight in about 20min and dont want to get stranted on teh road agian. Any one have any ideas?
Thanks
John

Could be your HPOP and IPR. This sounds like the same symptoms I was having with my truck when the HPOP and IPR went out. Of course you might get lucky and have it only be the CPS. Is the tach moving when your crank it?

didnt notice the tach but i think the previous owner replaced the cps a few months ago. IT is doing the same thing when the idm went out on me about 3 weeks ago but ti ddint start. when i was trying to crank it i could only hear a couple of injectors firing.

Check your VC harnesses and connectors. If they are fried it will cause that issue as well.

Sounds like you ran out of fuel. The fuel gages aren't very accurate and the fuel pick up can get hole in them and break off too. It ran bad right afterwards because you may have had air in the fuel lines. Fill the empty tank and see if it returns.

I would fill that tank back up and switch it back over at a more convenient time. I bekieve it was out of gas. The gauges are not accurate at all.

I was thinking i ran out of fuel too. I was going to ask you guys how low you let your tanks go before switching or filling up. Also Would the fuel bowl be out of fuel if it ran out of fuel. It was full when it broke today. I will check on the harness and switch tanks and all tomarrow I have a paper i have to right now.

Thanks
John
