VORRA Off-Road Racing

Hi all!

I'm a member of your neighboring chapter in NV. I'll be heading your way for the remaining off road racing season. We have 3 short course races at Hangtown (Prairie City). If anyone would like to see some good off-road racing, at a track where you can see the whole race (as opposed to the 250's, 400's etc., where you just catch 'em at a check point), or you'd like to race, feel free to join us! The kids love it..........wait, now I'm starting to sound like a commercial......anyway, I love it and thought some of you might like to attend.

Here's the schedule:

I wish I could make it, but.............

I see that you're in Fallon.

I take it for granted you've been to Sand Mountain?

Actually, I've only been to it, but not on it. I've done lots of riding at Glamis, Sand Mountain seems kind of small and crowded to me. Also, you can't get a one day pass, it's either a week or a year. You can ride in the desert surrounding it for free. But given that Glamis is so far away now, I may have to give it a try, I do still have my Banshee....

You mean you have to pay to ride on Sand Mountain?

I guess it's been awhile since the last time I rode on Sand Mountain.
It was free, and during the off season, there might have been maybe ten
campers, and their ATVs and dune buggies.

Wow, times have changed.

I use to ride an old '81 Honda FL250 Odyssey.

Yes, the BLM charges a use fee, to offset law enforcement and whatever else. There's also a fee at Glamis, and Dumont too I think. Every weekend, (and especially holidays) there's an endless stream of campers from out of state. I think you can still ride for free on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, but I, like most people, am at work.

An '81 Odyessy? Isn't that the one with no shocks? You're much braver than I........

No shocks and what a hell of a bumpy ride.

After a ride in the Odyssey, I had to almost crawl to the cooler for my beer.

The beer killed the pain, along with my suspension-less Odyssey induced vertigo.

Hi Michelle!

I have been to Rattlesnake Raceway for their mud events -

We (this chapter) are building a truck to compete - except your chapter sort of wimped out on us. Seems like the LV group are scared to get their trucks dirty.

But there is a couple in Southern California that still want to race!

Come on out! It's this weekend. Is your truck done? We (my husband and I) took the stock class last year in my 84 jeep. We're trying to talk them into having another one this year, 'cause this one conflicts with the VORRA race. He wants to put my super duty in it this time, but I just had the tranny done, so I don't know about that. Last year we had a IMCA modified so we were at the track anyway, but we sold that and have had time to do fun stuff this year! We have a couple bombers out back that need to be assembled, maybe next year. No fear of dirt around here!

Is that the station wagon that had it's top cut to make it into a ranchero?

No, it's a red CJ7 with a black top. Here's a link to the before picture:

http://collect.myspace.com/reloc.cfm...=131660158&id=

It was stock at that time except for the muffler and lift & tires. We lost an axle sometime during the race but it didn't make a difference. We've since replaced the crappy 'electronic' carb with a Weber (I got it for Christmas last year) and it runs much better now.
