Draining Water Separator

I did mine a few days ago. Almost 0 water in it. Anyway, I had the control lever half open and it was pouring out, not a dribble at all.
I put a 20oz gatorade bottle under the "nozzle" and not even 5 seconds into it draining, it was ~1/3 of the way filled. Their recommended 20 seconds or w/e it is would have over filled the bottle.

Drained mine last night. I've had it for a month, and this is the 3rd tank of fuel. No water at all, could have dumped it right back in the tank, if I had used a clean container. Ford says you're supposed to drain it for about 30 seconds, but holy cow, that sounds like a long time. That seperator doesn't hold that much water, does it?

I tow a 5th wheel with my 6.4L PSD so I have adopted the 8000 KMS/5000miles oil change cycle. I use the quick Lube at my Ford dealer as it is difficult to find CJ4 oil in other quick lube shops. When I ask for the oil change with CJ4 it only takes a couple of seconds more to ask them to drain the water separator. I have now gone through 2 oil changes and had to show them where it is and how to turn it on. They just drop the diesel and any water fuel into the waste oil catcher that is under the vechicle during the oil change.
I have owned a 1983, 1999 and 2008 Ford Diesels. I used the oil change cycle to drain the water seperator method with all three trucks. Only once did I have water in fuel light between oil changes. A Texaco station in OR had water in the diesel storage tank. How easy it was to spend $2000 to repair the damage.

I would say use it to start the next fire in your backyard fire pit, or if you don't have a fire pit, dump it in with your waste oil before you take it to the recyclers. You could also use it to kill the neighbors tree that is growing over the fence and he won't cut it back, even after you have asked him several times, and when he asks you about the holes in the side of the trunk, just say you saw some wood peckers on it last week. Oh, um, yeah, burn it or dump it with your waste oil.

Sorry about the hijack, I own a 6.0 but your post caught my attention. Some of you are probably former 6.0 owners. Anyway, am I to understand that your HFCM (water separator) has a lever to open for draining? If so, that's cool because the 6.0 requires a 6mm allen wrench.
Any chance that the lever can be retro-fitted?
Thanks,
Bill
