tires

I would say no larger than about 305's otherwise you will probably get rubbing. If you lift the obviously you can go larger.

i'd say go with the 285 because you'll have less rubbing. a 285 is a 33x11.5 as opposed to a 305 which is 33x12.5. if you want an all-terrain tire, go with cooper discoverer atr, or if you want a more aggressive tread, go with either the cooper stt or the dick cepek mud country (as you can tell i am a fan of cooper)

What's a good tire for normal everyday driving, but one that has sufficient tread for a truck that is used to haul/ etc?

I have 235 70 r 16's on it now... want to go to like, 265's or 285's... Suggestions?

You can put 285/75/16 on a 97 with no rubbing. Personally I would look at 265/75/16's there are a lot more choices for the load range and tread pattern.

I agree with the above. I had 235/16's originally and went with 285/17's for a while then settled on 265/17's. The 265's still look good and are a lot cheaper than 33's. Anything larger than 285/295 will rub at full turn. I will admit 285/70/17's look absolutely great but they kill your power and are hard on the front end.

I've run something like 6 sets of tires and my current Toyo Open Country AT's are the best I have had as of yet. I've run everything from General Grabber AW's, Continental Contitrac SUV's, Cooper Weathermasters, BFG Long trails and BFG TA/KO's. The weathermasters and Long trails were the second best tires, the TA/KO's are overpriced and wear WAY too fast, the General and Continentals were pretty good tires for their prices but nothing beats the Toyo's. The Toyo's have a good price, great look, wear well and have good grip in snow and ice.

I also had a set of Goodyear Wranglers that came with my FX4 rims that weren't terrible but wore too fast for me to buy another set.

Does anyone have a link to a good respectable tire/rim dealer online? Or will it just come up with a google search? (Runs to google to see what I can find)

What about these?

Tires -> http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/fin...52&rd=16&ar=70

Rims -> http://www.discounttire.com/dtcs/sea...bp=&vid=005452

I'm just looking for recommendations... I'm not sure I want to spend 1100$ on new rims and tires yet, but I might have to.

I put p295 75 nitto tera grapplers on stock rims...just fits... I'm not sure you can fit even 285s on 10 inch wide rims...
love the nittos but haven't had them long
got them from a discount tire direct store through ebay. 295s were cheaper on ebay but I could of got the same price local for 285s
http://stores.ebay.com/Discount-Tire-Direct-Auctions
free shipping all tires and wheels...good prices..at least I thought so.
The teras are much more agressive than the ones you listed

I just realized you have a 2wd, you can't go bigger than 265's on a 2wd without rubbing.

I have never heard of those rims, I went with sawblades then decided I wanted FX4 rims both of which held 285's without a problem.

I would stay away from the 10" wide wheels. The tires will most likely rub. Stick with a 16x8 and stock backspacing, and you can run a larger tire. I have 285's on my stock wheels, and I have plenty of room. I did throw some 34x10.50 Swamper LTB's on it once and they cleared with no rubbing at all, and I ain't even touched my torsion bars.

Hey how did you like the LTBs, ive been thinking about getting some and was wondering what you thought of them.

And a good website to order tires from is Discount Tire Direct, they are like the only place that offers reasonable prices on tires and give you free shipping.

They weren't my tires. A friend of mine has 2 sets of tires (1 set of LTB's, and 1 set of stock sized street tires for towing), and we got to talking one day and he said I could try them out for a week. So, I threw them on and tried them. They were pretty nice. One was a little out of ballance (he lost a wheel weight), they were awesome offroad compared to the A/T's I was running at the time.

However, I wouldn't use them for every day driving due to road noise (which I dont mind), and fast wear...
