Question no ampmeter

My 2004 F250 V10 doesn't have a ampmeter in the gauge cluster. Is that normal? Should I be concerned? Maybe some idot light will come on when the altenator goes out. Guess I'll just wait and see.

If you have the auto tranny, the normally standard voltmeter is replaced by a trans temp gauge. So yeah it's normal. I added an aftermarket voltmeter to mine.

Here's a photo:

Your voltmeter looks nice. Was it much of a chore to install? Is it back-lit for night. Is it tied in to your dash dimmer switch? Did it bother you not having one?

I believe that is a hillbilly house boat.

For those interested in adding a voltmeter here is one that I was going to install on my motorcycle but opted to install it in my Excursion. Not only do you get volt/battery status but also a lap timer (hey! that oughta come in handy!), stop watch, inside air temp and outside air temp.

$22...cheap. It is a really nice unit. I will install mine right below the light switch and plan on running the outside air temp sensor inside my intake for a day or two just to see what the temp rise really is.

Thanks. Pretty easy to install-used a hole saw. Only problem I has was the space behind the dash panel was tight so I had to cut a bit off the end of the bolts in the back of the gauge.

It is back lit and I got a green filter from an auto parts shop so it lights up green like the rest of the dash lights. I did tie it into the dimmer switch-can't remember which wire but it's easy to figure out with a wire diagram.

It didn't really bother me not having one but I saw the samll 1.5" gauges for sale at a website, measured to see if it would fit and thought it'd be a nice thing to have for not much $$.

I helped my neighbor put one in his SD too but I made him saw his own hole! Didin't want to be respnsible for messing up his dash if the cut got screwed up!
