can anyone tell me how to remove the steering shaft from gearbox

I picked up this steering gearbox from my local wrecking yard (mines shot) and was wondering how the steering column shaft comes off? any input is appreciated

Open the box up and pull the shaft out. You will need to take the box apart to get the shafts out.

Right. There's no other way without destroying something.

cool I can handle that, only it raises the question....this box is from an automatic tranny truck and mine is a manuel tranny. Just wondering if the steering shafts are the same.....in other words if they are the same do I realy need to do all that or just chhange everything shown in the pic. always looking for the easy way out

The box should be the same. The tranny linkage attaches to the tube, not the box itself.

pretty simple as there,s not much to em. pull bottom and side covers off and your looking at two gears- side shaft and steering shaft. once the the covers are removed the whole thing should come apart. why are you tearing this one down? the steering shaft gear is a press fit.also don,t disgard the thin shims from the bottom plate cover as these are actualy shims to adjust tightness in shaft movement.by the way my 59 has a 15" 60's style wheel- chrome 3 spoke- you know the style and no problem steering ever at least my arms have not fallin off yet. I,m going to replace it with a mohogany one of same size- just my personal taste- but your idea sounds solid to me. Mark
