older big three truck cab designations?
Allright, i was thinking about this the other night and it's been irking me since. Back in the 70's and 80's, the big three called their 'cab and a half" trucks and their "double cab" trucks different things.
Ford's cab and a half was the Super Cab, GM's was the extended cab, and i have no idea what Dodge's was (or if the even had a cab and a half truck in the 80's).
The Double cab trucks were Ford's six man cab, GM's 3+3 (how do you pronounce that?), and the Dodge term was the Crew Cab.
So i guess my question comes down to did Dodge have a cab and a half truck in the 70's and 80's and if so what was it called, and how do you pronounce GM's "3+3" cab?

I thought it was 3 plus 3, but it could have been a 3 and 3, 3 3, depends on how you look at it. just wanted to make sure. and the dodge is a club cab.
weird, i seriously don't think i've ever seen a club cab dodge which is saying something for all of the old stuff that's around here.
Thanks!

look here for a lot of this info.

Note that Ford did not offer a crew cab at first on the 1980 bodystyle (per 1981 brocure). Ford did have all three in 1979. Dodge did have the Club Cab at least as early as 1977.

They trade marked those names, so they all had to have different names to refer to their's as. Crew cab was never trade marked though, so all 3 manufactures refered to the 4 doors as crew cabs.
The GM 3+3 meant seating for 6, 3 in front and 3 in back. The trucks that came without the rear seats didn't have 3+3 badging. Yes, rear seats were options in those days.
2 door extended cab trade names:
Super Cab-Ford
Club Cab-Dodge
King Cab-Datsun/Nissan
Xtra Cab-Toyota
Cab Plus-Mazda
Space Cab-Isuzu
GM used the generic term of extened cab, not trade marked.
4 Door crew cab trade names:
GM-3+3
Ford-Supercrew (F150 only)
Toyota-Double Cab, Crew Max
Dodge-Max Cab
Nissan, GM and Ford all use the generic term of crew cab
Dodge used crew cab for the true 4 door trucks they made until the mid 80s. Dodge did not make another true crew cab until the Max Cab came out. They were careful to refer to the 4 door truck that came out in '02 as a "four door extended cab" due to it's small rear seating.
There are probably some other variances that I've forgotten. Mitsubishi comes to mind.

When I had my '94 F150, all I ever heard it referred to was an "extended cab". But, I seem to remember that way back when, a high school buddy of mine had a mid-70's F150 that had the words "Super Cab" on the truck's quarter windows.
Was I just imagining that? I could swear it was there, really.
