Thanks to all for what I've read about the Pertronix

In stalled today, a smoother idle, Plugs, wires, cap, rotor and coil are all one year old. Should I upgrade the coil?
If I don't should I still increase the plug gap too .40 ???
Thanks,Bob

Hi Bob, if you are running the stock coil I don’t think you will see much gain by increasing the plug gap, I’d start with the stock gap and open it no more than .005”.

If you decide to upgrade the coil, make sure it is compatible with your Pertronix system. The regular Pertronix Ignitor is designed for stock coils or their Flame-Thrower coil. The Pertronix Ignitor II system can work with high-output coils that have a much lower resistance like their Flame-Thrower II.

I agree with Barry. If you do decide to go with an aftermarket coil stay away from the accel coils. I have two of them (thought one went bad but didn't) and they make my tach bounce all around until it hits 2500 rpm and then all is fine. I didn't think it was the coild until my neighbor needed to borrow one. He said his tach was bouncing all over. I would get a pertronix or MSD coil. I have seen these coils work and they are pretty good. I kick myself everyday for not getting an MSD when I bought the second one. On a stock engine a stock coil with the pertronix should be plenty.

Thanks for the help and info, I'll open the gap and see how that goes. I don't have a tac. or timeing light. I 've adjusted the timeing by the way it sounds and feels. To work today about 16 miles it seem to run very well. :-) Bob
