Does anyone know a place that would have a 4 barrel intake manifold for a 1959 Ford 292 Y block? we found one aftermarket that was about 400 bucks and really cant afford to spend that much on one.
also does anyone know what other years/models of engines would have a compatable 4 barrel intake manifold?
thanks

I paid 5 bucks for a cast iron manifold and paid 3 times that shipping it from Dallas to west Texas. An Ebay deal.
There are two types... an A and a B. The A type is good ... the B is for the Towering Inferno carbs that came with them... otherwise known as the teapot carb. (a Holley 4500?)
Many times I will confuse the issue and have the two types backward. In any case, unhappily, I have the manifold for the teapot.

Go to www.ford-y-block.com that is John Mummerts web site in El Cajon, Ca. They have H/P parts for "Y-Blocks" a little pricey but well worth it.

Actually Himmelberg got it backwards. I have a -9425A intake on my truck now, and its the "old" square pattern base intake that will not fit modern carbs. It fits the old stuff such as the Carter WCFB among others.
The desireable stock intake that everybody wants is the -9425B. This intake will fit the Edelbrock or Holley you buy at your local speed shop.
I paid about $100 for one of the "B" intakes on ebay about a year ago but haven't had time to get a carb for it yet. They come up all the time and usually sell from $75 to $125.

The ECZ-A 4bbl intake will fit some Carter WCFB carbs and Rochester 4G and 4GC carbs.
The ECZ-B fits the Holley 4160 and Carter AFB (Edelbrock) carb.
If you currently have a 2bbl that's working and have the time, I'd suggest trying to set up a ECZ-A with a Carter WCFB. It will take some research, but it would be an interesting setup.

I'd prefer to run a mid 60's Ford truck air cleaner, along with a carb that's easier to maintain and tune than the WCFB. I'm still in the learning stages when it comes to the carb. The Edelbrock AFB and the Holley have much wider parts support and they fit many more common sized air cleaners.
No doubt that's why the prices on the ECZ-B intakes have always been higher than the ECZ-A intakes...

On my Y-block I just built, I'm running the late 4-barrel intake with an Edelbrock 500cfm. On the initial startup, it ran nice with out-of-the-box calibration. I also have a generic parts-store air cleaner with a K&N element, with a sweet-looking cover over it whose source I choose not to reveal right away.
