Advice on offroad-a/t tire selection

Hey guys. I've got an 88' ford ranger 2wd 2.0liter. it's got P195/70R14 tires on it at the moment. I'm looking to replace at least the back pair with a pair of offroad/all-terrain tires to help some in wet grass/hills, light mud, light snow/ice. This truck is worth at most $500, so I don't want to invest a lot of money in these tires, so I'd prefer used, or just good deals. I've been looking around online, but I haven't had much luck finding something I liked, which is why I'm asking this question here.

A friend of mine has an older 2wd S10, and he recently got a pair of used tires from a guy he knows, and he claims they work great on wet grass, hills, etc. So I'm looking for something similiar to them; here is a picture of his tires

These are 205/75R14, but I'd like something similiar in a size that'll fit my rims. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks.

I would not go much bigger than that because of the engine size.

Well that's the thing. I want to get a pair of either off road or all terrain tires that will fit my current rims, which are currently attached to stock tires, 195/70R14. I don't want them bigger, just more aggressive. I've got stuck in wet grass trying to go over a slight ridge in the ground, with lots of extra weight in the bed! I can't have that (I'm a big ford fan, and my ego can't a-ford to have my dodge driving friends constantly pull me out!!!)

I've been searching all over the internet, and it seems NO ONE offers an off road or all terrain tire, similiar to the one in the picture, that will fit my 14" rims!

I don't want to go bigger, because of my weak engine, and I don't want to spend much money. In fact, I'd prefer used tires!

Does anyone have any clue of what I can do?

Bridgestone offers a 27 inch tire for 14 inch rims.
I think they are Desert Duelers- very good tires.
Also Michelin as more street style tires for 14 inch rims. Also good tires.
It is literally a small market for these tires, but they are out there.
Try Google - The tire rack, tyres international, Sam's club can order you some too.

So what if you get stuck, I've been stuck a million times and always got out with some help, just remember to the return the favor!

http://www.tireboy.com/dayton_timberline_at_tire.htm

Dayton is a subsidiary of Bridgestone if I remember right. Friend of mine is a tire dealer and he speaks very highly of the Dayton tires.

I'm glad someone likes them cuz the set I had on my F350 sucked big time. I hated those tires.

Something else I keep forgetting to ask, are 195/70R14's the only size tire that can fit my rims? Or can a few other sizes fit them?

I've read on another site that the following sizes are equivalent;
195/70R14, P205/70R14, P195/75R14, 205/65R14, P215/60R14

However, it doesn't specify if these tires work with my vehicle with new rims, or if they work with my existing rims. Also, I'm not sure how trustworthy that site is.

Can anyone set me straight here?

Those tires should fit. I do not know all the cross section widths of all the tires, but there are not too many tires made for 14 inch wheels. Make sense? Those wheels are very small these days. I am sure the stock wheel width is 6 inches, correct. You maybe limited to the overall diameter and the look you are going for and/or the performance you are looking for - traction, rpm, etc.
If you are not sure, use the size on the sticker on the door jamb.

Well, I'm positive 195/70R14 is the stock size for this truck, all the websites say so, and big o tire said so too...

Knowing alternative sizes should help me find something suitable...thanks

You really have to determine whether their use warrants the price. If you just want something for show with an agressive look then I'm sure a discount tire shop can hook you up with something to fit your needs.
