texan2004 is da man
First a little background info. About a year ago I had a brain fart and sent a money order to a fellow FTE menmber up north for an agreed upon amount on an aux. trans. plus shipping. Now fastforward a year and I still have not received what I had paid for and said FTE member quite answering my Emails. Enter Carl "texan2004". Buisness brought him to within a few miles of this persons home and picked up the trans mentioned before hand. Now I emailed this person to ask them to please give the money for shipping to Carl for his troubles, I told Carl I emailed the fellow and he never responded so just ask him for it when you get there. Well I will say this, at least the guy was not so chickens**t as to not let Carl have the trans but he did say he didn't remember anything about the shipping I paid him. I am pretty pissed about that as I work hard for my money but you know the old saying, a fool and his money are easily separated. I got what I paid for and learned a lesson that just because you have something in common with someone and they talk a good game, not everyone is a good ole boy. Thanks again Carl for your help, if not for you I would be out my money plus whatever I spent going to whashington to get it myself, plus probly some bail money.

I am glad to hear that you got your transmission. Thanks to Carl. It's a shame we have to put up with people who don't follow thru on there word. But, let's not allow one bad apple to ruin the rep of us all. I think this is the best group of fellow enthusiast around. Smart, good humor and for the most part very well intentioned. Maybe to preserve the integrity of the forum we should know who it was? I don't know, just putting my 2 cents worth in.

Well F6Guy I understand about your money I would be pi$$ed off too, but thankfully we have great people like texan2004 to help out in situations such as yours. Glad you got your trans. though, but still that sucks some people can do a hard workin' man such as yourself like that. As I say anymore about people "That don't surprise me".

In his defense I spoke to several people who have had good dealings with him before I sent any money, so I am just saying that I had a bad experience and there are two sides to every story, he may not really remember and maybe for some weird reason did not get my emails but the facts in my mind remain unchanged and that is a year later I was out money and still had nothing to show for it. The guy did have a bad year but all he had to say was hey I can't send the trans at this time here is your money back. I even asked for my money back but like I said before maybe he did not get the message. I am in no way trying to bad mouth anyone but just want people to not make the same mistakes I did and to be careful. We all have to work for our money and when you are on a budget an unwise investment can become a major setback. I am paying on a house and some more property as well as a new truck for the wife so I could have put that money to better use rather than just trowing it away.

My wife's email set-up always asks for the receipt. And even then, it ain't proof that she's the one that read it( I should know, lol). A proper reply to show that he read it should've been done, but who knows. The internet is only as good as the ones who use it, lol.
Still, that's no excuse on his part. receiving the money should have been a clue. Whenever I, wait....if I ever, a big IF, get money in the mail, or paypal, I have to ask why? Nobody gives you money for nothing, lol. (Dire Straits, lmao)

Matt (F6 Guy) left out a few very important details. I met Matt through this forum about a year ago and he hooked me up with a running flathead only two hours away from here. Downside was that I had to pull it out of the truck. No problem. Matt's cousin hooked me and my brother up with a comp'd room at a Lake Charles Casino. Next morning as luck would have it, the Casino was holding a car show. Boyd Cottington was in town to judge it. Somehow, Matt and his cousin were in the judging or hosting mix as well. Through Matt and his cousin, my brother and I were able to meet and speak with Boyd and his wife.
Roll forward to last month. I was in Sulphur, LA, one town over from Matt, working on a pipeline project. We were pressuring up the sytem at 2:00pm on a Sunday afternoon and found a serious leak that required some welding. We had no welding capabilities at the site. I located a shop but no welder. UH-OH!!!! We had to have this thing ready to go by midnight, it's Sunday afternoon and I need a welder in Sulphur, LA and I need one real bad. I called Matt and again he hooked me up. Matt had a local friend who welded it up in no time and pulled me out of a great big mess.
In short, all I did for Matt was return a couple of big favors and I was glad to do it.
BTW, it's darn good thing that Amtrack station in Portland was right across the street from the Greyhound station. When Greyhound told me they had a 50# weight limit I started wondering how I was going to explain why I was abandoning an F6 tranny in the back of my rental vehcile to the folks at National Car Rental when I returned it the next day. Fortunately, after an hour or so of having to do all of the thinking for the Amtrack baggage/freight folks (I hate when someone says something can't be done only because they are too lazy or simple minded to figure out a way) I found a suitable destination for Matt's tranny and was able to send it on it's way.
Haven't had a chance to talk with you but I assume it made it to N.O. OK.

Great story guys...well other than the problem part that started it. There are some really good people in this part of the forum.
One found my truck for me. Two sent me video tapes of Chip Foose's ovehauled 56. One sent me hinges for my truck, since he no longer needed them for his.
I have seen parts and piece sent all over the place for members here. Usually for the cost of shipping and sometimes not even that.
It is nice to be part of a bigger family.
