2000 V10

This is first time posting on your forum! I have read many of the strings, and haven't seen this problem discussed. (I only wish I had found this site earlier, as many of my interests have been covered in detail here!)

When I accelerate, I hear a faint tapping noise from engine area. Sounds metalic, like a valve tap.

I bought the truck used in Nov 01, w/ 33k miles. It is still under warrantly + extended coverage for some time yet.

Any ideas?

Some Triton engines had problems with piston slap. But I thought that problem was resolved by 2000... Anyway, if it is piston slap, you can have the problem fixed since its under warranty. And until you do, you don't have to worry about it, its just a noise and doesn't effect performance.

My truck also has a slight "rattle"... but I think it's more of a characteristic of the engine rather than a problem. I suggest test-driving a few other V10s to see if they make the same noise. If not, have your truck checked out.

Thanks NoMo & BuiltFordTough1985 for your fast responses!

I believe that I heard a similar sound when I test drove a new V10 last year, but I was not in the truck for long!

I now realize that I didn't post correctly (incomplete question in subject line!)

Thanks for reading far enough to get to my question!

I'll be sticking around this site for a long time!

Mike

How rude of me!

WELCOME to the site! You'll not find a nicer, more helpful bunch of people. Be sure the check out the Excursion & Heavy-Duty forums up the page a little ways.
