03 & 04 6.0s
I am going to ask a question that I haven't seen asked here yet. I've looked over a lot of the threads in the 6.0 section that concern all the problems these engines have had.
Who will come forward and say that they have had "ZERO" problems with their 6.0s? I'm talking just engine breakdowns. I know there are other nitpicking problems, but I'm wondering if all the early 6.0s have had major problems or are we just hearing from the unlucky fringes!
I would love to buy a 6.0, but I don't want a headache.

I'm not sure what you call a major problems. Mine's left me at the side of the road once. Bad EGR valve and leaky EGR cooler. Fixed under warranty. Seems to be a fairly common problem. Once fixed, that's usually it. I also had an intercooler hose blow off. I replaced the hose and clamps myself. It only took about 20 minutes and parts were covered under warranty by a service bulletin. It's been a great truck other than those two problems. Mines all stock. Some 6.0 owners on 03 and early 04's had some head gasket troubles, but I think most are attributed to chipped engines. Would I buy another one? Yep.... If you like the 6.0, go for it, but do your homework.

Mine is essentially problem free.
I bought it in June 05 with only 12,000 km. It sat for a while... but now has 40,000 km (~25K miles). I recently had the Oasis report checked. It's a March '03 built truck in service date 04/29/03. The only repair was the turbo pedestal. It was causing a seat of the pants vibration...
Fixed under warranty.
No after market power parts.
I don't baby this truck & I do get my right foot into it. Most summer weekends I pull the boat, carry a 100 gallon water tank (~900lbs) in the back plus a dirt bike, food, lots of beer & the family out to the cabin.
We just came back fom holidays pulling my boat through the BC rockies down to camping in Osoyoos. Loaded down as above averaged 15.5 MPG hand calculated over 4400Km.
When I do drive it, I use it as a truck.

2006 f350 with 36.5 K. I had the headbolts, gasket and egr cooler but it was all at one time and the dealer suggested it when he caught low coolant and a first time "puke" stain on my 30k checkup. They handled the repair, spotted me a car, and returned it running better then ever. (I honestly hadn't even seen the puke stain). I love this truck. I believe it will always do what I need done. rc
