Factory Power delay

I'm confused about the factory power delay (60 seconds??).

I have seen a few references to it lately and am not sure what it means.

Can someone please enlighten me?:7

Factory Power delay

Most of the time, on mine, things like the power windows have power after shutting the vehicle off. I noticed the clock stays on for this period of time, also.

Hope this helps.

Or, some cars have power for windows, sunroofs, radios, etc til you open the door. This allows you to turn the key off and sit in the car and listen to the radio, roll up the windows, etc. And some vehicles with automatic headlamps will keep the lights on for 30 or so seconds to give you light to get in the house, I know Cadillac has had this for years.

I know what that is.

I thought this somehow referred to the engine as many have asked if a chip/SCMT will remove the power delay.

Why/how would a chip remove/disable the power delay? (as it is defined above.)

I think maybe someone is referring to turbo lag? Hell, I don't know. Never heard of a factory power delay!

Monsta,
This came directly from the Banks website, and is describing their Ottomind product

"Banks removes the factory-imposed power delay, which impedes responsiveness up to 60 seconds—so you get instantaneous power when your throttle demands it. "

It made me wonder what they were talking about, I had never heard of the "power delay." I guess that I can't really answer your question, but at least it sheds a little light on where it is coming from

Monsta,

When I was visiting with Banks on the phone, the guy described it to me in farely easy terms. Go you think I can remember what the heck he said? I think age is catching up with me. What I do remember did make sense however. I would recommend giving Banks a call and ask them about it. Those guys seem to be pretty good.

They're probably referring to the sluggish shifts and the retard during the shifts.

AH-HA!! I knew I'd seen it somewhere! Thanks! In fact, I think someone also made reference to it in the V10 SCMT announcement thread, too. (The one anchored above.)

The EEC-V has torque-management routines to save wear on the tranny by removing timing while shifting. It gives smoother shifts but takes out power.

My understanding of the 'power delay' relates to towing but I would think it doesn't matter if you're towing or not. What I was told by Banks people and by some folks on an RV newsgroup is that when you are pulling uphill and have to back off the throttle for some reason (such as a Chevy in your way!) then when you climb back on the throttle to regain your speed, there is a delay before the computer applies full responsiveness. I have no idea why this delay is there nor what it is supposed to accomplish. I have a banks powerpack system being installed on my F350 so hope to soon be able to tell if their system truly eliminates this phenomena. I have experienced it while towing but maybe that's because the extra power requirements of accelerating uphill while towing makes it more noticeable.

Please fill me in on how your Power Pack install went. Did it make a major difference? Worth the $$$?
